I quit 8 years ago (Copenhagen-guy), after 10 on. I miss it every time I have a big burger or Mexican Food. But there's a lot more I don't miss.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
I chewed Copenhagen for 23 yrs and loved it, but my kids kept on getting on me wanting me to quit. I tried to a few times before I finally did.It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, they say its twice as hard to quit as cigarettes. Its been 5 yrs now since I bought a can. The other day I was in BiMart and my daughter pointed out what a roll of Copenhagen cost now and Dang, Im glad I quit. I dont know how I could afford it these days. Its like $50 a roll. I think it was .45 or .50 a can when I started chewing. Hell if I ran outta chew when hunting I would have drove an hour to get more Copenhagen and wouldnt have cared what anyone said about it.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
use to suck the juice out of a couple cans a day,
Gave it up about 14 years ago. When I was running low hunting I would just mix in a few elk pellets to make it go further
After 3 days its all mental, quit and you will be happy.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
I chewed Copenhagen for 21 years, a can every 2 days. I hung it up 3 years ago. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I went cold turkey and it was about 3 weeks into it when the thought of killing everybody I looked at finally went away. It was the best thing I ever did. It is so nice not planning everything I do around wether I have enough chew in my pocket. You can only do it when YOU are ready.
Good Luck

..and it is still mental 4 years later while drinking beer or hunting/fishing.
I quit the day my oldest son said "Dad, when will I be old enough to have some?"

I have been around it for as long as I can remember any smell. Alot of my dads friends chewed and I developed a hate for the smell of the stuff when I was 8 or 9.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
As stated earlier you are the one that needs to make the decision to quit... I quit several times to go back to it as soon as something came up in my life... Stress and such...
I finally made a deal that I will never turn back on... I had to drive from Corvallis to Colorado, Grandfather in the hospital and I was needed. I had quit the tabacco several weeks earlier but wanted to stay up and make the drive in one day... So I made a deal with my maker to get me to Grand Junction in one piece and I would throw it all away and never have touched the stuff since....
Still very difficult 8 years later to have a cold beer and not want to have a chew.
Good luck it is tough... I would find someone to help you and have a good support group that you can lean on....

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
Got out of the Marine Corps without a tattoo but had a big time chew habit! I was a Copenhagen guy for 10+ years and chewed a can every two or three days. Only miss it a bit when I have a fly-rod in my hand. Nothing like being thigh deep in a clear stream with a dip in, and watching a fresh hatch take off… or when shooting a 50 cal full auto or watching mortars land a few clicks away! Quit 8 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. My wife (girlfriend at the time) would email me every day a new photo of some guy with his face half tore off because of chew. After a month or so of getting them…I quit.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
All you trying to quit...or want to have a non-lip rotting dip...
TRY SMOKEY MOUNTAIN!!!
it's an all herbal TOBACCO FREE "fake" chew found most places I think. and IT DOESN'T FALL APART, GET HARD, OR GET ALL OVER YOUR MOUTH LIKE MINT SNUFF. It tastes great and is HEALTHY FOR YOU! it has herbs and ginseng and guarana and some other crap like that.
They have 2 or 3 flavors too! Try it!
I've never been hooked on chew, but like this stuff.
Could save your lips, or life, or wife!!!
Man, I should be a salesman!

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
Started chewing redman when I was in highschool then after graduation I graduated up to copenhagen...that was in 2002. Now being a poor college student I can't afford the good stuff so I moved down to Red Seal. It gets the job done and I always cary a back-up can...one in the boat and one in the pickup.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
I have chewed since 1994 was alway a copenhagen guy till the prices went up,now I'm a Griz zly man. I quit for almost 3years starting in 2000 but when I went antelope hunting in Wyoming in 2003 I said to myself ,I am east of the Cascades I can have just one, well it didn't end there I'm still chewing and I hear about it every day from the wife and kids. It's all mental after the first couple days I'll quit again and hopefully for good.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
Yep, Cope for 15yrs or so before quitting. Still can't pop open a coke w/o patting pockets. Unfortunately, picked up a smoking habit in the process but I can give or take on those. A pack a week isn't too bad.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
I quit the first time in 83. The guy pulling greenchain across from me bet me 5 bucks I could't quit for a week. 15 years later I was in a store and the words I'll take a Can of copenhagen came out of my mouth. One pinch and it was the best thing I had ever tasted and I was hooked again. 5 years later I looked at pictures of mouth cancer on the internet to quit. so far so good.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
True story - One time when I was in high school, I left my Copenhagen on the kitchen counter while I was getting ready to go somewhere with my buddies. The next chew I took about burned through my lip, watered my eyes and swelled up my tongue. Then I made the fatal mistake of wiping my eye with the hand that I used to take the dip. Dear old Dad snuck in there and thought it would be funny if he stirred a little cayenne pepper into my chaw. He always told me that if I didnt quit and got cancer they would take the graft from my rear end and I would spend the rest of my life with a crappy taste in my mouth. We still laugh about that.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
I was just sitting at the computer thinking about walking out to my truck to get my cope. Then I read this post. I want to quit, but cannot seem function in the outdoors without it, and the outdoors are a lost cause, I am hooked for life. The only time I don't seem to want it when hunting is when hiking uphill (maybe I need to pack hunt more LOL)
Gottafish, I drove 40 minutes one way into Granite this Sept to pay $8 for a can, but would have paid $20 for it at the time . I hear you about the irratable thing .

Most I ever paid for a can of cop was on My sub the Henery M Jackson SSBN 730. I ran out and we were still on alert for another 3 weeks so I ponied up for a can $100.00 bucks. And it was so worth it. LOL Isn't that Sick!!!!

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
I started chewing when I was 13 and started with the candy stuff (Hawken). I started chewing skole and then copenhagen when I got in High School and it was exceptable to chew and spit off weight if you were a wrestler. I did the rodeo thing for a few years and then broke my back and everyone I was around was chewing. I quit once for about a year when I noticed my boys were copying me. I started back up but had to quit Cope because it just got too dang expensive. I chew Grizz now but my wife hates it. She has never seen me chew but finds my can in the truck once in a while and throws it away. I can't believe how stressed I get if i don't at least have a can on me. I can go all day without a chew as long as I have a can. Everytime I get a cold I say I'm going to stop but no dice. You Guy's who have quit, hats off. I like to chew and I guess I'm not ready to quit. I work in surgery and see cancer all day but still I chose not to quit.

I started 12 years ago at 15. Was a Kodiak guy, then prices went up and I found Rooster, then prices went up more and I found Husky. I go through a can every two or three days with small pinches. There's always an excuse to have a dip.

Ahhhh, yes. Quit 3 times. Twice for eight months each, and most recently for a year and a half. Started back up 2 months ago. Copenhagen Long Cut since I was 17.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
I got out of the Marines with a bad dipping and smoking habit. I quit both cold turkey the day my girlfriend told me she was pregnant. I didn't want my kid to ever see me doing that and thinking it was OK to do. Hardest thing I have ever done in my life bar none! That was seven years ago and I haven't touched a tobacco product of any kind since then because I know the minute I do I would be hooked again. I'll never go near it again. Quitting was the best thing I ever did for my health and for my kids.

Re: Hey Rednecks!!!!
They say its harder to qut then cigarettes because when you take a dip the nicotine is constantly flowing into your system, and when you smoke its only when you take a drag off one. I know I was an unbareable SOB for a couple weeks when I quit. I was still reaching into my pocket for a dip for a couple years afterwards. I tried a chew of grizzly today after about 5 yrs without and I was higher then a kite and got a lump in my throat. Im done with it for sure now

I tried it once. The smell of it gives me the instant sweats and my stomach turns inside out . After a minute of it being in my mouth, I was buzzin like a night out of heavy drinkin . I try to stay as far away from the stuff as I can.

My Captain in the Marines did that for years and just before I left they removed a four foot section of his intestines that was shot with cancer and he was undergoing chemo for the stuff they couldn't cut out.
