Re: Howdy Y\'all from the Lonestar State!
Actually I believe that is the store in Buda, TX just outside of Austin, correct?
I was in that store last summer shortly after it opened, it was my first time in a Cabela's store. We were visiting my bro-in-law in San Antonio and I drove the 60 miles just to check it out. I was there (with wife and daughter) for four hours and still didn't get to see it all. I wanted to stay longer but the wife/daughter said that a day in Cabela's was not part of their vacation plans, half a day maybe, but not the whole day . Anyway, we had fun at the shooting gallery and I had fun just roaming around checking it all out. I to also got out for around $50 as well, but it took alot of self control though.
My overall impression was; Sportsman's Warehouse on steriods........I could have easily stayed all day. They even have a resturant in there

Re: Howdy Y\'all from the Lonestar State!
Artwo - that is correct - it's in Buda - about 8 miles south of Austin. I was only there for a couple hours. When i went to the one in Kansas, shortly after their opening, I was there for 5 hours. The restaurant is much better in Kansas and it has a lot more game type food. The displays in Kansas were much more impressive as well. But, you're right - it's Sportsmans' on steroids, but i think Sportsman's used the Cabela's model for their stores. Regardless, it was cool to see yet another Cabela's. I could have spent thousands easily, but i only brought one suitcase with me. D'Oh!

Re: Howdy Y\'all from the Lonestar State!
I'm headed to Austin for a week in June. Other than Cabelas do you have any other must see/experience/eat/drink suggestions? My wife won't be with me, so male oriented suggestions are OK!

Re: Howdy Y\'all from the Lonestar State!
Well, I haven't really had much of a chance to see anything other than my hotel, a couple restaurants and the inside of my client's facility. For me, Cabela's was the main attraction. As far as food, ask around for the best BBQ joint closest to wear you are staying. There ae lots of BBQ joints. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Hare's Ear,
If your lookin for some good BBQ while your in Austin then you need to get out to The Salt Lick. It's a little ways out of town but probably the best Texas BBQ in the area, very famous. Just google them up and you will find their website. Oh, by the way, they don't sell any alcoholic beverages at the resturant but you are allowed to bring your own (no kidding, pack a cooler with your favorite barley pop or vino and take it with you). It's a cool place way out in the country, go if you get the chance.

Re: Howdy Y\'all from the Lonestar State!
Thanks. I'll add The Salt Lick to me list. I'm a huge fan of BBQ. I don't think I will have a car, so that may be a problem.

Re: Howdy Y\'all from the Lonestar State!
I'll be in Austin for 10 weeks this summer. I should come back completely baked and about 30 lbs lighter just from the heat unless I drink too much Shiner (best from the tap) and have too many Double Dave's pepperoni rolls. Some of the best BBQ in Texas is when you find the hole in the wall type joints way out in the middle of nowhere--hot links on slide of bread with mustard for breakfast and brisket for lunch...mmmmmmm. I forgot about the Cabelas and will have to make that trip in my spare time.
