April 9th Halibut Opener
Any 'Dogs going to be out in WA inland waters for the April 9th opener this Sunday? I'll be launching out of Anacortes and fishing area 6. Give a shout on VHF 68 or 69.

Re: April 9th Halibut Opener
Since my better half is leaving town for the weekend of April 15th, I was thinking of heading over to Sequim for some butts. I've only fished out of Ilwaco for Halibut and this would be a new place for me to enjoy.
Any advice? Since I'm new to this area I was thinking on the first day of hitting Dallas Bank. And if the next day is really good may be going out of Port Angeles and hitting Freshwater Bay sand flat. I only have a '19 cuddy and will have to watch the weather closely.
Could a salty dog help me with advice to stay safe?

Re: April 9th Halibut Opener
My lack of experience in the straits is about to show here but... When fishing out of Ilwaco we always seem to have a forecast of 2 and 4 or 4 and 6 and we end up fishing the morning hours and getting back in before the afternoon winds pick up. Is it a similar situation in the straits where the morning hours are usually fishable and the afternoons are not?

Re: April 9th Halibut Opener
The straits usually don't have rollers but have wind waves on the east end. They are usually stacked tight. I fish the ocean alot and think the straits can be uglier other than bar conditions. But you might be ttalking to the wrong person as I tend to stay out longer in bad weather than most. I have a pretty safe boat and feel pretty comfortable. I do have a lot of respect for the straits and ocean.
Hard to forecast the weather right now. As for now I am running out of Everett to Sequim, Eastern, or Hein. About 1 hour and 20 minutes by boat. Not a bad run.

Re: April 9th Halibut Opener
Pijon, It can blow 24 hours.... but in the spring and early summer it usually pics up later in the day as a thermal low is created inland .....For fishing Seikiu to Sequim the weather radio report from Race rocks in Canada will give you the best idea of the conditions...Good luck and be safe.

Re: April 9th Halibut Opener
I got boat fever something awful but am still rigging the new Arima. Finally got that blasted Eagle/Lowrance transducer mounted. That keyway system is for the birds as far as getting it set.
I would expect several fishin reports sunday night. I and crew are going to be there the 15-16th.
