Canadian Fishing license
Well I had some friends that fish with me for halibut in Canada pressure me into going up there this morning to get our licenses. They had helped me on the garage and so I was about done with my part other than painting. We left at 5am and were back at 10:30am. They really checked us going across into Canada. More than I think they ever have. Anyway we got our licenses and bought a little snack. Seems we all got the same thing. Beef peperoni sticks. Well it is just a mile back to the boarder so the peperoni sticks were in varying states of consumption. The officer checked our passports and other ID along with our licenses that we handed over with our ID. Then he asked how much pepperoni we had purchased? We were all eating the sticks while we were sitting there. We were some what surprised by this question and I am sure did not respond appropriately. But thing was he was serious. It seems there is a ban on the importation of beef from canada. Well when we realized he was serious we began stepping up our speed in devouring the sticks. He began shouting that we were eating the evidence. In the end he got about 6 or 7 dollars worth of pepperoni from us. The moral of the story is to eat what you got before getting to the boarder. To be fair the officer was in a friendly mood and gave us as much time as he could without being obvious!

Re: Canadian Fishing license
Yeah I was up there last weekend with the Mrs. and BabyBeee for a little leisure time in Vancouver. Made a stop at Nikka and got the license. I might be able to sneak out if any one needs crew on a Canadian hali trip.

Re: Canadian Fishing license
I bought the three day permits on the trip last summer. What does the full year with everything on it cost for an ugly American?
BTW, we got the same questions about beef last summer. We told them that we came for fish and prawns not beef.

Re: Canadian Fishing license
Apparently you can get Canadian saltwater licenses online:
Canadian Tidal Waters Sport Fish Licence
Haven't tried this yet but hope it will save a stop on the way to Tofino this summer .

Re: Canadian Fishing license
WARNING!
Please be aware that you CAN NOT use the online license to fish area 121 which is across from Neah Bay. You MUST drive to Canada to get your license if you intend to fish Canadian waters out ff Neah Bay.

Re: Canadian Fishing license
SD,
According to their website you can use the online license in area 121 for everything except halibut.
Quote:
No person who is not a Canadian resident may fish for or retain halibut under an electronic licence in management area 121, as described in Schedule II of the Pacific Fishery Management Area Regulations. If you are a non-resident and wish to fish for halibut in management area 121 you must purchase a paper license from a vendor in Canada.

Re: Canadian Fishing license
$114.49 canadian for a license, with a salmon stamp. Nikka and Pacific Net and Twine have a pretty good selection of sevenstrand clones and zukers for a reasonable price. Worth checking out if you are in the neighborhood.
