Default Found a black bear!

Okay, my folks did. It's one of the regulars to the backyard and the first of this year. What makes this one special is that we've watched this bear since it was a cub; though you can't see it, it has a rust colored spot on right hind side. We've watched this bear for over 8 years, so it's almost like a pet. I'd imagine it'll live it's days out in the woods behind the house and ultimately pass on out there....

I hiked and glassed a lot of country all day yesterday and didnt see any bear. No sign either. Maybe the yard bears are the first ones to get moving.

Nice pictures.

My local bear came out the other night and dug up under the stump in my yard, then he raided my burn barrel. I hope he liked the taste of cardboard ashes I guess that it is time to start throwing the fish carcasses over the hill again.

LOL I walked in to the house and the wife said "whats wrong? you look like you seen a ghost. I told her and she didn't believe me till the next morning when she walked out to go to work and saw him in the can again. LOL And I live in Troutdale. Havent seen him since

Zeb,

We've had bears coming to our place for the last 14 years. I don't think there has been a year where we haven't seen at least one. A few years back, the folks called one morning and said that a sow had brought her cubs right up on the deck within 3 feet of the back door while she pulled our five gallon buck of bird seed out from underneath the porch table. My dad has met a bear on three occasions now walking around the side of the house while the bear was coming from the other direction. In all instances, it ended with him going one way, the bear peeling in the other

I don't know about the bird feeder with molasses??? I do know there has been a can or two of raid with bacon wrapped around it to keep the bear out of the yard from destroying everything though. I believe on more then one occasion we called Fish in Game about trapping one of them but they said all they could do was kill it; no use in relocating because they'd come right back. I've also lost two spike bull skulls that I found at work to the jaws of the bear. One I was able to recover from one of the many "tunnels" through the rhodies, but the best one is long gone. Maybe when they finally sell the last piece of forest land behind my folks place to the developers, they'll find the elk skull and think that elk once roamed the area!

Thanks for posting the bear pictures!

From within view of my house I have seen bear several times but I am not sure if its the same one or not - they are always running away. On one occasion I was lucky enough to see a cougar silently bound off into the bushes just 300 yards from the house. One thing that has always puzzled me about the large predators behind my house is, what are they eating? There are abundant deer and elk but I have never found a cougar kill. However, I come across several deer and elk every year that seem to have died of "old age" and the only critters that scavenge these animals are coyotes. The only "problem" animals are the squirrels on the bird feeder and the posums in the dog food.

I think the wife may have a bear picture (hind end running away) I may be able to post soon.
