I did a search for Cravex and it turns out that it is a weight loss drug. So that can't be it...

I found a fishing product called X-10 that bills itself as a fishing bait additive that stimulates feeding. Might have to check the regs to see if something like this is legal in Oregon though.

Lastly, going to Petco for fish advice may seem good on the surface but my experience with those folks is that they'd be just as smart at any other $6 an hour retail job. Check out a local aquarium shop that does ONLY fish and they might know what you are talking about.

Wow, weight loss or feeding frenzy with the same product name? Sounds like a lawsuit in the making for someone getting those two confused.

Marty is right, it's Cravex Plus. I think it's the only scientifically test proven formula that actually stimulates fish feeding instincts. I believe it works best in slower moving currents where fish can injest the released chems, such as in tidewater 'Nook fishing. I don't think it will help with fastwater driftfishing. However, when it's in my boat I do get the urge to eat cheese and candy. Oh ya, I get that urge everyday reagrdless. - RT

Love the stories. Anyone have a comment on how well Cravex works as a fish attractant? Not as a weight loss drug. Although I could stand to drop a few pounds.

I feel the cravex is the straw that gets the fish to cross the line to bite. Not sure if it is the Amino Acids or the Lipase(enzyme). Here is my theory on the Lipase part of the equation...Lipase adheres to the olfactory areas allowing the amino acids to be smelled better similiar to the new nasal blockers used in humans (nasalCrom). This allows the fish to smell the amino acids better causing them to strike or feed more quickly.
Fish have two different receptors like humans the smell on the top of their head and the taste on the inside of their mouth. The attraction is done by either the smell ,the visual attraction of the lure , the movement picked up by their lateral lines or a combination of these attractors.
Next comes the bite, This is one of the main reasons I prefer to use bait(scent and taste attraction). Fish will strike bait again once they have tasted it. If they taste a item and it doesn't appeal to them they are now educated not to eat that item again for awhile. Bait will bring them back for another chance increasing your hook ups.
Cravex is a clear liquid that dissolves in water so it needs to be applied frequently unless you mix it into a jelly solution for a more timed release. If you use a sponge bait the release will be slower than just applying it alone. If you want to know how much is still on your sponge bait, dye the cravex so your sponge color is the indicator of the cravex scent level you are using.
Just some of what my mind goes through trying to think like a fish.
Here is a link to learn more than you ever wanted about lipase and should help shoot holes in my theory. (If you can understand the chemical talk) http://www.yorvic.york.ac.uk/~clarke/

Default Strike enhancers

I have heard/read about a fish feeding stimulant used in aquariums. I think it might be called Cravex. I went to a local Petco store to try to buy some and the clerk just looked at me funny. Can anyone help me get my hands on some of this stuff. I would like to experiement with it this fall.

Hey Marty, I just found out why it's so hard for me to lose weight. My son wants to beat me one on one in basketball and I caught him putting my CP into my Afrin bottle.

Marty, thanks for that suggestion. The next time I keep a black fish with white fungus all over it I will shake out it's eyes and use that stuff to clean off the skin. It'll still be good smoked. Right?

Good suggestion on shaking out the eyes. I always hated the texture of those. Usually I just put the whole fish in a pot and call it soup. Heres my recipe
Put whole fish in pot including eyes and bring to boil. Add potatoes, celery, can of tomato paste, salt and pepper. Cook until potatoes are soft. Allow mixture to cool. Place in mixer and blend. NOW TAKE IT AND POUR IT on your GARDEN AND CALL FOR A PIZZA..you deserve it if you took the time not to waste your fish.

Sometimes I think some of us have too much time (or is it fungus) on our hands.

I found the Cravex Plus, Thanks all.

Clear View Fish & Reptile on Lombard
289-6499

Here's where it gets interesting. I got the last one, one day after the post about the store on Lombard. He said he sold 8 other bottles in a day and a half. How's that for an example of the power of this board! Usually sells 1 -2 a month. I told him to stock up and there would be more following me.

Tried is on Friday on the Clack. Feldhimers to Barton, on the somewhat lockjawed silvers. Bobber fishing small chews of eggs, 8 lb leader. Took three adults, none on the cravex treated eggs. Will try again this week and also on the chinook in tidewater in a few weeks.

Sometimes it just feels good to think that you might have something else that gives you an advantage. Wheather it works or not is yet to been seen.

Steve

Only the fungus remover is a snipe hunt ******. I've been experimenting in slower water with a drop of CP on the eggs, float fishing for 'Nooks for awhile now and it does seem to help a little bit there. I also put it on sardine and fresh tuna filets on the belly of Kwikfish, but since the 'Nooks already hit those so readily I haven't really noticed a significant difference; yet. I'm going to try it in some of my custom bait scent formulas too. Just another thing that they might want from time to time. Hey, try a tiny drop of vanilla extract and let us know how that works. - RT

Try this link http://www.thatpetplace.com/ 2.99 a bottle plus ship and handling. Not too bad I wanted some NOW so I paid a little more for 2 day air, didn't have the time to go into portland and get it, sounds like they are out anyway. Going to try it on the Salmon River on Thursday, did well last week with bobber and eggs, landed 3 lost 7 for two of us, all big too, 27,35,30 lost 1 that was most likely 45.

Over the years, smelly jelly on a piece
of yarn above your egg hooks, salmon
egg/salt and anchovy/salt with a
Tillamook cocktail (eggs/sandshrimp)
have produced with no one elses bobber
was going down around me. I think good
eggs was the key though, and the rest
was enhancer.

See you in tidewater. Save me a spot.
Thanks RT, Steve and Marty. By the way,

When My eggs don't catch fish I have found banna peels work as good enhancers. LOL
I guess it boils down to Rule 1 of fishing "the fish have to be there"
