Is it mean.....
Is it mean to post a pic of the turkeys that live in my neighborhood, without saying where I live ?
A neighbor started feeding these a few years ago. They used to be real skittish, now they wander the streets like cattle.

Re: Is it mean.....
Good looking pic...too bad there's a house behind them. I dont like seeing wild critters that are totally acclimated to humans.
Healthy looking birds though, I'm sure they lead a nice life. I'd imagine the daylight wakeup calls right now are getting pretty crazy.

Re: Is it mean.....
On a serious note....for about the last 2 years there seems to be a definite increase in the turkey population here in Benton county. We have the "flock" in our neighborhood; a friend who lives about 1.5 miles away (west of the fairgrounds) has a flock in his neighborhood, and another friend in south Corvallis has a flock.
Is this happening in other areas too? Is it just a natural ebb & flow of populations, or something else at work (like humans feeding them)?

Re: Is it mean.....
Wild Turkeys are freeloaders if they are fed and will stick around where the pickings are easy. They are a novelty at first, then as they grow in numbers they become a pain. They are expanding rapidly all over the valley so what you are seeing is just the beginning. The good news is, in two weeks you and your friends can get busy thinning the herd.
Good Luck

Re: Is it mean.....
Pretty neat for a while. Just wait till they start roosting on the lumber rack on your truck. They leave a pile like a poodle only about 8 times a day. Then when you go away for a few days and don't have a neighbor feed them, they will tear the hell out of your yard feeding themselves. Could make for some funny video though if you have a bird dog you can turn loose on them.

Re: Is it mean.....
I agree ajfishfinder. They were fun for awhile. Then I made the mistake one afternoon of pulling the boat out front of the house to get ready to fish the next morning. They usually don't roost in the firs right next to the driveway but unfortunately they did that night. What a mess! I now consider them hostiles and the war is ongoing. At least they don't roost next to the house anymore.

Re: Is it mean.....
Not mean at all, kinda like posting a pic of a elk in a high fence, who really wants to shoot that? I love it, you should take lot's of pics of them, especially when they get really fired up. I love good turkey pics. I had one in Napa that was just a sap for the call. I could get him pretty much every afternoon to come down the hill and strut around just a few feet away. The last time I saw him three jakes were about to kick his arse and he ran like heck to get out of there. Thanks for the pic....

Possibly the west or north side of town.
Near McDonald Forest
Wouldn't be too hard to find.

Re: Is it mean.....
Hehe...you guys are funny. Hey we also have an abundance of deer in the neighborhood. So come prepared for the full surf & turf. Or what would you call a turkey & venison combo?

Re: Is it mean.....
We have a flock thats growing in west linn over the past few years its gotten alot bigger. I think the whole tualitin vally along the river will be full of them cause its pretty hard to hunt them in the city. I know the police have been chasing them around town cause they been bolcking traffic- they have no fear of humans. Stafford area land owners might have a new hobby pretty soon.

Re: Is it mean.....
I will even shorten the list for you guys...
Not any of these:
2525 SE CRYSTAL LAKE DR CORVALLIS 97333 8182
2525 SE THOMPSON ST CORVALLIS 97333 29407
2525 SE RYAN ST CORVALLIS 97333 29456
2525 SE 3RD ST CORVALLIS 97333 29463
Those are all in my neighborhood and we don't have turkeys...well, not the feathered kind!
How did you get that list? That is pretty cool!
