Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
Real simple
1 star * = Awful
5 stars ***** = Great
Brokeback Mountain - ***1/2 (Good story although it may make some uncomfortable)
Good Night and Good Luck - **** (Timely and well acted)
North Country - ***1/2 (Good story)
King Kong - ***(weak story and bad acting. Stunning special effects)
Capote - **** (Philip Seymour Hoffman is awesome in this)
Munich - **** 1/2 (Superb political drama)
Walk the Line - **** (JC would approve)
Chronicles of Narnia - **** (Eye candy)
Jarhead - *** (Disjointed story but well acted)
History of Violence - *** (They killed off Ed Harris too soon)
Crash - ***1/2 (Worthy of best picture?...no, but worth a look)
Four Brothers - *1/2 (Forget it)
Cinderella Man - **** (Crowe and Zellweger are very good actors)
The Greatest Raid - ****1/2 (Inspirational)
40 Year Old Virgin - **1/2 (Few laughs...very few)
Batman Begins - ****1/2 (This is the way the first 3 or 4 should have been)
Sideways - *** (Quirkey comedy)
The Woodsman - ***1/2 (I love Kyra Sedgwick )
The Weatherman - ***1/2 (Good dark comedy)
I'll add other movies as I see them.

Re: Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
Stew, I've not seen all of these yet, a few that I have seen I agree with your assesments with the exception of Jarhead. I'd give Jarhead a "No Star". King Kong, while worth seeing is too dang long. Cinderella man was excellent and Batman Begins was awesome. I stopped the 40 year old virgin half way through, guess I just wasn't in the mood.
I'm looking forward to Capote and my wife has Walk the line rented and waiting. Thanks.

Re: Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
Umm I thougt you were dong great until I came across the rating for "history of violence" I just saw that last night and it was awful!! I dont see where it could get one star. predictable, graphiclly gorey, and one step away from a soft core ****!
Im sorry I rented it.

I want to see both of these movies, and have heard the same great reviews from many people. Sounds like a couple of good flicks!

Re: Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
Cinderella Man is very good, even my girlfriend enjoyed it.
Jarhead is horrible. Even my girlfriend was disappointed.
If you haven't seen it yet try renting "Domino".
It is loosely based on the true life story of a female bounty hunter. There are actually a lot of big name people in it like Christopher Walken. There is plenty of action, a decent story, and some humor mixed in.
I never heard of it while it was in the theatre, but really enjoyed it, and so did my girlfriend.

I was thinking Jersey City...
I see ya gave Narnia 4 stars. That is by far the best rating I have seen from anyone about that movie. I will rent it when it comes out, dispite the horrible things I have heard...
Crash - Meh, completely overblown and overrated. Not a bad movie--just way overrated...

Re: Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
Ive only seen 3 of the movies and I agree that Walk the Line and Sideways were pretty good, but am I alone in thinking that Crash seemed shallow and contrived, like a made for tv movie?

Re: Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
Yep Snappy that Bi-Mart there in town should have the best deal
You know the funny thing about "Walk the Line" is Joaquin Phoenix is actually a better singer than Johnny was. I think that is one of the things that makes this movie so good is the fact that Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon both do the actual singing
Just like Sissy Spacek did in "Coal Miner's Daughter"

Re: Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
I don't see many movies, and I had no idea that Reese Witherspoon was the actor she is. Pretty talented. Joaquin Phoenix impressed me in Gladiator, and he was perfectly cast in this movie. The thing I liked was this movie told the story of Johnny Cash's life in what seems to me to be a realistic depiction but at the same time it is a movie that I can stand to watch with my family. That was not an easy accomplishment. Talk about "Walking the Line"........
Maybe I better go rent Coal Miner's Daughter.

Re: Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
For the Walk the Line/Johnny Cash fans, here's one of, if not THE, last video he ever shot: Hurt.
He had done a few remakes of modern rock songs. This is my favorite. Outstanding album, too.

On the contrary, I felt there was so much to that film that I need to see it a couple more times.
Walk the Line was really good, especially when you consider that the actors did the singing. Jose Cuervo, Jesus Christ, Johnny Carson AND Johnny Cash would all enjoy ...
Brokeback Mountain was well done, but pretty much a chick flick ... unlike any other done before, however. A really good story.
Good Night and Good Luck also very good.
I don't get out much! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the best one yet

You're in the ballpark, but not quite there. I like several of those actors you listed. You don't think Babs really belongs on that list though, do you? The others are all good actors.

Re: Short reviews of current movies I\'ve seen
It's in the theatres, same type of movie as House of 1000 Corpses, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, But the "the Hills Have Eyes." It was pretty good although lots and lots of violence, not for the squemish at all.

sideways.....awful, dark, boring....and itr was listed as a comedy....no laughs...lame movie...oh well
history of violence....um lame too....should have been a good movie but they didnt have a clue how to make a good one....
story was disconnected...ending was lame....
insideman is pretty good....densel is awesome....the ending...C+....not great but just ok

There are alot of people I don't agree with that I don't hate. As you know you and I certainly don't see eye to eye on a lot of things but I certainly don't hate you. I think you're a little odd ( ) but I don't hate you.
By the way, there is actually one thing I give Depp kudo's for. At least he had the cajones to move away from the country that he hates.
