The Native Americans at Cascade Locks are doing well with their nets, and selling for $2.00 per pound, a lot of fish Upriver Brights over 30 to 40# just looking saw maybe 6 or 7 Summer Steelhead and 2 Nates. Somebody has been buying up all the eggs, meeting the boats and taking all that money allows....wasted a 110 mile ride...for starter eggs.. and at $4.00/lb...anybody got a source of fresh uncured eggs?

Steve, I bought quite a few of those eggs. 3.50 a pound. I bought about 30 pounds last Tuesday. There was a lot more to go around at that time. Some guides most have gone in there and bought them up. I know a guide that does just that. I dunno where else to get em, any suggestions group?

Frenchmans bar was pretty productive this weekend. Saw 26 caught on Sat and 30 today. Those were just what I saw. Unfortunaly I was skunked today but did pick a chinook Sat. One of those days when all the boats around me caught fish and all I could manage was one strike. Boat next to me caught a 40lb,30lb, and an 18lb by 12:30 or so. Best days I've seen so far.

Boy am I out of it. Ive fished the lower Columbia for a long time and I have never heard of Frenchmans Bar. This year, everyone I talk to gives me a report from there. But, Im too embarrassed to ask where it is. Here goes...Can someone give me a relative location on this spot??????????

Thanks WaterDog,
Ive even fished there for springers before. I guess I just didn't know the name or that it was a good place for fall fish.
I appreciate the info!

Say Waterdog,

I've lived, literally, within eyesight of Frenchmans Bar for over a decade and never fished it. (you know that old saying about the salmon being greener (brighter?) on the other side of the coast range hill).

From all the reports I'm thinking I'll give it a try after work, see about an evening bite.

But I'm wondering about your anchoring systems out there? Do you need 100' of anchor line? 200'? What set-up do you recomend?

Can you catch fish outside of the crowd or do you really need to be in the thick of the hog-line to have a chance?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

You'll be anchoring in 40-50 feet of water. I have 350 feet of rope but only use 250 feet of it. I just tie up the rest. Pretty much you typical Columbia River setup. I've seen scattered boats below the hog lines that will catch fish too. That's what I may do this coming weekend since the wife will be along. She doesnt care for the close quarters especially when she needs a potty break.
