Slow, Slow, Slow... We hit the Clack from Feldheimers to Barton today. There are fish in the river, but not in any great number. We saw many fish rolling down from Eagle Creek, and managed to pick up only one small jack close to the take-out. Afterwards, I went down to Clackamette Park to check out the scene there, and there are alot of fish rolling at the mouth. So in about a week or so, hopefully they will press on upriver.

Went again today (Sunday) and we got one adult and one jack. Slow day again. Talked to six or seven other boats and only one jack caught and one adult lost. After taking out, we went to the circus under 99E. 100 - 150 people hooking lots of fish. We decided to give it a try: I lost three and my buddy stuck two in about an hour and a half. With all of the fish that I saw running up the riffles, up river should be hot next week.

I am going to give it a try at High Rocks on Wed. Were there a million people there too? Sounds like you have been pretty good. Thanks for the info!

Today (Sunday) I walked down and watched the circus at McLoughlin Bridge. I watched for about 30 minutes and would estimate a fish hitting the bank every 3 or 4 minutes. Even if wanted to fish, I forgot my rock, so I had no where to stand. The fish were stacked on the bank like cord wood. While walking from the bowling alley to the river bank (100 yards +/-) met 2 people leaving each with 2 fish. This is not fishing for the shy. I saw one fish go over the riffle about 3:00 pm.

I left and went up to High Rocks (found a few un-manned rocks) and spent about an hour and never saw a fish. Only about 3 or 4 other fishers up there. The man scuba diving the main hole seemed a little strange.

How are the bank anglers fishing? Drifting Eggs, spinners or what? Never fished there before.

Where exactly is the McLoughlin Bridge and what are they using there to catch the salmon?

So what bait did you use for the Scuba Diver? maybe a harpoon is legal? or a gaff.? Really it was probably a member of Clackamas County Dive Team looking for a body...gotta keep the river clean...on the other had it might be OSP checking your rigging?

Steve - I checked the regs and could not see any restrictions for techniques for hooking scuba divers. Any idea what the limit might be. Might be a protected Marine Mammal.

Monday morning McLoughlin Bridge Report (9/11/00)

Got to the bank at 6:30 AM brought my own rock to stand on, need to bring some dirt next time to put it on. Counted 122 people on North side of river, 23 people on the South side of river. To crowded for me so I watched. Tried to figure out a way to sell tickets to this show. From 6:30 to 6:45 not a fish on. From 6:45 to 6:50 saw 12 fish hooked. 7 of them netted. Left at 6:50 to be at work at 7:00

Fishon - Mcloughlin bridge is at the mouth of the Clackamas River. Walking distance from O.C. Fishermans Marine. Most everybody is drifting a corky/yarn.
