Hey PM,

The crabbing has been pretty decent in Tillamook from the reports I've been getting,

Had a friend there last Sunday, they got 31 nice dungey's!

Two nice old timers oun in Nehalem yesterday (Thur), said they had got 13 in just a few hours.

Kimmel's Hardware owner Allen, said he was in Netarts last weekend and only got 1 stinkin' crab!

So....there ya go

Crab-on!??...Tight-buoy's!??...

Crabs are easier to catch than salmon - always throw out the crab pots! Crabbing should be good until the REAL rain starts

Mission accomplished. The boat is in storage at the next hot spot and the fridge is full of hard crabs! We hit around 50 and kept 36 that were hard.

Trolled the west channel, ghost hole and the CG hole. Only saw 2 fish caught all day. There were many salmon jumping in the ghost hole at first light. No biters for us though.

It was nice to have the bay all to ourselves. This is the antidote to the nightmare under the Mcgloughlin St. bridge. It won't be deserted much longer.

Pilar and others,

Thanks for the info... Sounds like we should have been at T-Bay (for the crab anyway). Went to Nehalem and picked up ten keepers Saturday night, and fished and crabbed Sunday. Saw one fish caught Sunday, and heard of two others. Pretty slow.

We are still learning the ropes out there. I have to say thanks to all the ifish members that have helped us get started. I felt allot better infomed, and not quite as green.

Someday I will be able to contribute info to the new guy too!

Take your kids fishing. They'll love you for it!

Petermac, you're welcome. The trick to crabbin' as far as I know is to use fresh bloody fish for bait. Any bottom fish except Cabezon (crab eaters) works good. Tuna or Halibut is the best. Salmon is good too, but is a favorite of seals and sealions. It helps to jam your trap full of bait too. As much bait as possible without allowing the crabs to reach from outside and eat for free.

Fish only the incoming tide and really work the high slack hard. I usually get 2/3 of what we get at the high slack. That's a good time to add more fresh bait.

Try night crabbin'. You'll be the only guy out there. At night go shallow, I fish 8 to 10 foot deep water near the clam beds.
