Default PFMC meeting April 2-7

As you most of you know, the PFMC will be meeting in Sacramento April 2nd thru the 7th to determine whether we will have any salmon seasons south of Cape Falcon. I assume most of you are interested in the outcome. From a previous post on this website, there was a link to a Wall Street Journal article that described how Karl Rove had Gordon Smith go down to the Klamath and open the flood gates to give the farmers water. I am not going to criticize either one of them about that effort, but it seems that some e-mails to Smith might help him get motivated to get the Bush administration to get the PFMC to enact the emergency exception and get us some fishing this summer.

There is no question that Smith's political maneuver is somewhat related to the salmon die-off on the Klamath and the present threat to our summer salmon fishing. So, he may be motivated to "make up" for his 2002 effort by going to bat for us with the Bushies. There is no doubt in my mind that the Bush administration could influence the PFMC if it wanted to. They pull strings everywhere else, including the Klamath when they started the whole situation, so why not pull some strings to help us get some seasons.

Thus, a short message to Smith to ask for his help in getting us some fishing may help. It may not, but why not try? I know the Coastside boys are planning mass demonstrations in Sacramento. It is a much shorter drive for them. So, if they can do that, we can at least send some e-mails. I am not saying that e-mails to other people and entities shouldn't be sent, I am only suggesting that Smith must realize his connection to our mess and may be motivated to help us out. Here is his e-mail link:
