latest siletz report
Has anyone been on the Silezt this week, or over the last weekend? Just wondering...I hope the weather turns for the better, so I can be over there this weekend. Caught two my last trip. One hatchery and one very nice native.

Re: latest siletz report
Sorry to break it to you, but things are not looking promising for many coastal streams for this weekend.
Predicted river height for the Siletz on Thursday: 14.50 feet.
Predicted river height for the Alsea on Thursday: 15.60 feet.
As much as I'd like to think those rivers might drop back into "anything fishable shape" I don't think it's going to happen. Not by the weekend. It's suppose to shower for the next week or so. I'm willing to bet the Siletz won't fish for at least a week.
I'm going crazy about it, too. I've been waiting for low water level conditions to try out some new techniques and places, and this sure isn't helping.
No more rain!

Re: latest siletz report
Here's what I'm shocked about...got a buddy that fishes the Siletz frequently. I do the same when I get the chance off from school. He's been hooking 4/5 nates for the past 4 weekends that he's gone!!! I don't remember when the brats are supposed to be more in there or if there aren't that many or what, but i do remember catching brats in there last year at this time..gonna go sat and figure it out first hand.

Re: latest siletz report
Floated the moonshine to twin bridges today. Beautiful float! We ended up with one Nate to the boat, promptly released. Talked to a few other guys on the river and of all of the fish caught, about 9 total only 1 was a hatchery. I am hoping that they are holding up in the lower river and will come up in the next week or so. The native we caught was a georgeous fish and displayed it high flying prowess, giving us 4-5 nice aerial shows.
There are fish in those waters but from what it appears most of them are nates right now.

Re: latest siletz report
Rain has its pro's and con's. Pro beign more fishies! Con being that it looks like its going to be a while before I can chase them. :depressed: We had hoped for another Moonshine flaot this weekend also, but looks like a gear tying weekend instead. Went 1 for 3 there last week. Only talked to a couple other boats that had touched anything. Did hear of more nates than hatcheries though...

Re: latest siletz report
Yeah you guys nailed it, seems like no hatchery fish at all. Nates are fun though. I heard some good reports from the Alsea before the rains started.

Re: latest siletz report
I have been hearing much better fishing reports from the Alsea for 2 weeks or better. The plunkers in the lower river have been doing well. The Siletz seems to be a mystery, there aren't many brats. They were here in Dec. tho, the conditions were tough then. Lots of boats I mean LOTS of boats on the Siletz it's a zoo like I've never seen.

Re: latest siletz report
I'm with Chilly One..... The last time I fished down there (2 Saturday's ago) there were trucks with trailers lined up on both sides of the road at the Moonshine ramp, no place to park at the Twin ramp and on both sides of the road all the way up through town to the Market. And only a few fish being reported caught. Don't know where the fish are, but there sure were alot of boats trying. Get ready for 50 boats on each run with all the magazine and internet publicity this river gets.
I'll stick to the Alsea. There are good numbers of broodstock fish showing up in that river. That program seems to be working great!

Re: latest siletz report
more like 120 to 160 boats on each run. Better stick to the Alsea where there is no boats

Ya know, I just love to watch the boaters race each other downriver...as a confirmed bank maggot, I can tell you that the boat races are for the birds!
