Default Looking for an inexpensive trip to Italy....

Mission impossible.
Looking for an inexpensive trip to Italy from Portland.
Maybe something all inclusive?
Has anyone done this?
What is a resonable budget to plan for a trip like this?

Thanks in advance...

What part of Italy do you want to see? Might go see a travel agent and then do your own homework once you know what you want.

Bernie, why didn't I think of that?

Hey, somebodys gonna have to take care of my lawn while I am gone. I can't think of anyone with more experience

Of course I will likely give up a season of fishing to make this happen so I will likely be able to return the favor...

I just got back in october from a month in europe, half in italy, the other half in france. Enjoyed them both but I love italy ever since I spent two years there in the military in the mid 80's. We planned it all out ourselves, my wife most of it. We spent six days in an apartment in rome and six days in venice this time. Europe is not cheap, you can do it less expensively but its not cheap. We spent about 15 grand for the month for 4 of us. I can probably answer alot of questions if you want to pm me.

Italy..

An amazing place. The Amalfi Cast is very pretty. The food is TOO good. It is common to spend over 2 hrs at lunch. Everything is pretty there, Chicks, Car's, Food, Scenery, you name it!

Your"ll have a great trip Ray!

elron is right on.. Italy is not cheap. Euro just pour out of the pockets. We went last June.. family of 5, in europe they don't like you to have more than 3 in a hotel room at a time.. so we often had to get two rooms. Food is not cheap either. We were out nearly 15K Gs in 3 weeks.

Have you thought about using the boat to get there?

I know you like your Cdory, would be a good time to skipper the boat, fish along the way, and have a cheap vacation.

The best deals are in the winter, same time as ours. You could also vacation on the edge or shoulder of the peak season....March, April, October, November and you save more money this way.

Airfair is very expensive. Once you get there, traveling by train and bus or renting a car is cheaper to get from location to location.

Finding inexpensive hotels is vitaly important if you want to keep cost in control. I did a lot of searching around the net and booked hotels online. I tried the travel agent route first but found they didn't save me a dime and often the price was more. Plus I discovered they were mostly doing the same thing I could do sitting in front of the computer at home.

Last October we ended up going on a cruise instead of planning all details like hotels, transportation, food and negotiating internal travel ourselves. We decided to go simple to keep the vacation stress free and relaxing. The only drawback is you never get to spend very much time in any one location. But that's where a good pre and post crusie stay/vacation with a good intinerary can really add to the trip. This was our first cruise and we found the trip/cruise extremly enjoyable plus having food available at all hours was really great with our busy schedule.

Plus I'm not sure if we could have seen all the sites we did in just 2 weeks without taking the cruise.

We toured Venice, Athens, Kusadasi (Turkey), Istanbul, Mykynos, Naples, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Marseille, and Barcelona. We really liked Turkey and my fiancee really enjoyed the shopping there. What a great trip, we'd go back tomorrow if we could afford it.

We booked our pre and post crusie hotels oursleves and saved some money. It's still an expensive vacation know matter how you swing it.

good luck,

Gregg
