I was wondering if anybody knew where you can purchase some live crawdads? Thanks.

Hey Jigman
I don't know where to get live ones right off hand. If you want to use them for fish bait I buy the frozen tails at GI Joes. They work really well.

Hey, why buy combine a Crayfish trim to Timothy lake for trout and mudbugs...drop a trap or two off the handicap dock with catfood inside and fish around the lake, the best thing for bait right now is crawdad tail on the bottom...hint the sides are steep...cast far and let you sinker drop out there...if you have a boat on the east side of the lake where little crater creek comes in drop your traps in on the rock ledges...#8 woolybuggers trolled slowly or wind drifted has been productive (black or dark brown...)Steve

In Portland you can purchase live crawfish at Newman's Fish Co., Tony's Fish Market or Pacific Fish and Oyster. They run about $3-4/lb. However, if you have the time they are easy enough to catch in many waterways.

I tried gi joes and they didn't have any frozen. Bought a trap and going to set it out this weekend and see how that goes. Thanks for the input.

We have a trap and use it everytime we go out. It works great!!! I use them for bait and my son eats the bigger ones.

What kind of canned catfood is the best and how long do you leave it in for? I've tried mine several times without any luck. Tried in the same spot as a guy I seen a couple yrs ago on the Green River and he was getting all kinds of them. I can't believe they have a season and a minimum size in Washington. Most the people I tell that I'm trying to get them look at me like I'm crazy. My aunt had some neighbors from Texas and they made these crawdad puff doughballs. Talk about good eatin!!!!

Of course, since crawfish are such high society critters and so hard to please, years and years of research indicate that they prefer the "fancy feast" brand of cat dinner.

But those of you on a fixed income or on a strict budget will relate to the fact that they will also go for "friskies buffet" (in any of the fish varities).

But please do not try and get them to go for the store brand crap, they will be highly insulted.

"Whiska's brand" can also do in a "pinch"

Crawdads can be very finicky and independent, so don't try to hold them when they don't want to be held.

And don't try to pet them if they're not purring.

If all else fails...give them a warm saucer of milk!

Of course as far as eatin' them goes, I tried them once and they were absolutely delicious!...However, the fur did stick to my tounge!
