There were times last year on the Cowlitz when a fly is all that would work, well that and a small jig...just about the same thing.

Jim;
Where did you get this information? I couldn't find any regulation changes on the wdfw website. I had heard that this was likely but ...

Hey Guts or should that be skeins??
Talked with Wolf with WDFW today who is head of that program in Region 6...this is a quote. And I am excited! Now I think of my 2 fish limit potential and have to mentally say...thats ok!! But must admit that I am liking the 6 thing.

Hey guys,
It's been in the regs ever since they have been published. Follow the links to on the WDFW web page to the fishing/shellfishing page and then to the westside rivers. You'll need acrobat reader to be able to bring it up. If ya don't have that go to www.adobe.com, it is a free download.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

My mistake guys,
I read 6 and thought 4. The regs have read 4 after Oct 1 and I was excited about that but 6 is darn near unheard of!!!

I fish there at the barrier and I've never seen anyone use a jig to take coho. How would you fish a jig for coho? Last year, I fished a small jig the same way I would fish a corky and yarn = surprised everyone when I would hook into fish when they wouldn't bite. Only problem was, the hook would straighten out on the small lil suckers.

Ya can't go wrong with Nolan Smith for fishing on the Cowlitz. Not only does he want to be a guide on the river, he will leave you with a new friend. He's a top-notch guy, and he is more hardcore about fishing than I am (is that possible?). He has a 21 or 22' Woolridge Jet Sled, heated, covered, coffee, etc. He may be busy because he has a day job. Guiding is his weekend job. Even better, the guy isn't married so no nagging wife to make him get off the water early...LOL LOL j/k to all the "wives". Give him a call @

For lodging, I recommend the White Spot Motel...it's so close to the river and only $35 a night...sweetest German lady runs the place. Or you can check out the Barrier Dam Campground @ 360-985-2495.....$12 a night for primitive spots, plus they have clean showers and stalls. Tell Nolan that the greatest fisherman from Alabama sent ya and he will know who sent ya
Roll Tide.... man Nolan owes me a trip for plugging his service I think...lol
