i had a funny one down on the rogue one day that I turned down. A truck pulled up and the first question was "do you know where to get any weed." The passenger got out of the truck and pulled a tarp back from the bed of the truck and there was a guy passed out in the back. the guy slapped him awake and said "wake up and move over" or something to that effect. I just said "ya know, that's ok, I'll just walk." I have met many nice people otherwise. I guess it's kinda rollin' the dice with your own safety though these days. It's too bad.

There used to be a wild animal farm on the Sieltz, and when my pardner was hitchhicking back to get our rig the owner of the farm stoped to pick him up, since there were 3 people in the front seat he told him to get in the back. Problem was that there was a full grown lion in the back. My pardner mentioned this and the guy said " dont worry he's tame and wont hurt you" Well my pardner being the smart person he is said thanks but no thanks!

Default Scary Hitch Hiking stories!?

Has anyone got any scary hitch hiking stories while thumbing a ride back to the rig after a float trip? When I was 16 we floated the lower Siletz during the off season and I had to choose between walking 5 miles or accepting a ride from two obviously drunk (beer cans everywhere) men driving a Pinto with rifles between their legs. Not being a very bright teenager I accepted and it turned out just fine, they even offered me a beer.

Several times I have been picked up by different families of hippies. They always ask me whey I am carrying a fishing pole.

My scariest ride came when a teenage girl about my age picked me up as she was going to her home in the upper Siletz valley. I couldn't get her to talk to me but she kept staring at me in that Deliverance sort of way.....

On the Alsea once I had a group of teenagers do several drive-bys in their 4x4 yelling mean things and throwing beer bottles and rocks my direction. I don't think they actually tried to hit me but they still scared the crap out of me.

I sure do like rivers with a shuttle service!
