Davis lake=doggy trout!
Spent this weekend camping on my friends new property near LaPine. My friend and his dad went to hunt, and i tagged a long to try out davis and Hosmer lake. Hosmer was dead, but Davis was pretty good. Quite a few people, but still plenty of room. I mostly fished the odell channel (near the campgrounds). Caught a bunch of nice sized rainbows during the midday big (in size and numbers) mayfly hatches. The trout were not fighting that good at all. The smallest fish i caught was about 16 inches (largest 19 or 20). For there size they shoulda been takin me well into my backing, but rarely did any of them take out line at all. They'd just jump a few times then give up.
Are they usually like this, or is it just the time of year, water temp, or something.
