Default Teleflex steering system

I am going to go with a new steering system. Seems like the teleflex is the way to go. I saw teleflex has what they call a quick connect system. Are they the way to go,how are they better than other systems? New to this stuff.

Teleflex has been making steering systems for probably 80 years. I re-cabled recently and probably wouldn't have had to if I had maintained the original properly. The important part is getting the correct length. Good luck.

I can not help you with the quick connect question, but Teleflex can. You can email Teleflex, whose technicians are very helpful, and the email can be found on their website. Or if you order through West Marine, they can give your the phone number for the technicians.

FYI - You probably have an ID number on the existing cable - mine is repeated every foot or three, not unlike you find on electrical wire. That number will be helpful when you ask questions, or place an order.

If your boat occasionally, or constantly, pulling to the right or left, you might want to consider the "NFB" option, i.e. No Feedback. The NFB works very well, and the operator does not continually have to hold the wheel over to compensate for the pull. You can get more info on the NFB feature on West Marine's "West Advisor".

The Black Rocket and all USIA SAVs have SEA-STAR systems. No problems and great preformance of twin 225s

Since I may be going with twins on my boat project, I was wondering if the shift/throttle controls are generally setup linked to a common shift/throttle unit. Or, does each motor have a separate shift/throttle control unit?

Thanks.

Each motor has independent shift/throttle. You use a dual binnacle control.
