Newport Weather Forecast (24-27 March)
I want to ensure that everyone is aware of the coming forecast for this weekend. Right now there are two low pressure cells currently located just off shore. One is coming through right now and the other will be following about a day behind. These will be generating gale force winds and make the seas choppy (12'-21'). My prediction is that the Yaquina Bar will be Restricted to most recreational if not All Recreational Vessels for the next few days. I was just on the bar (1050) and the Buoy Line is 12'-14' sluffing breaks, Tips had 10'-12 steep swells with occasional breaks centerline & south, 8'-10 steep swells all the way in to the Hump. Right now the Bar is Restricted to All Recreational and Uninspected Vessels. For further information you can call our WX line at 541-265-5511 or speak with the Operations Center at 541-265-5381. Boat Safe! R

Ocean forecast = :depressed:
Thanks for the report!
Might have to do some Spring Chinook fishing in a local river.

Re: Newport Weather Forecast (24-27 March)
Rich, 12 to 21 ft is choppy? CHOPPY? That's rough to me, not just choppy. Guess choppy is relative to boat size and to experience!
Do you know anything about 46050, the Stonewall buoy? Seems it isn't giving all the data it used to show. No windspeed or direction and no windwave or swell height. I'm hoping it will be back to 100% soon. Any info you cna provide would be good to know.
thanks

Re: Newport Weather Forecast (24-27 March)
Ron - You're right about "choppy" actually a 12' wave is big enough to roll a 47' Motor Lifeboat, so when I say "choppy" I should probably say Dangerous! Our Surfmen (Yaquina Bay) will spend about 400 hours on the Bar in one year, and as much as we look forward to the challenge of the Bar, we have to also measure the risk. Today the wave period at the Jetty Tips and the Buoy Line was about 9 seconds, doesn't give even a 47' MLB much time to turn and run back inside. Stonewall Banks Buoy? Let me make a call tomorrow and see what gives. The telemetry on those buoys is so high tech when they break, we've got to run someone out to the buoy and put them on it to fix the problem. The Buoy Techs come from Bay St. Louis (Gulf Coast) to work on them. I'm going to guess that they really don't want to get on that buoy until it lays down. R

Re: Newport Weather Forecast (24-27 March)
Thanks Rich. I won't blame them for not wanting to get on the buoy until it lays down! I wouldn't want to get on it until it laid down a lot!
It would be nice though to know that they do plan to get it fixed. I'm probably not the only one that checks it on the web every day!

Looks like 46050 is working now, or at least the website is.

Re: Newport Weather Forecast (24-27 March)
BF, the website is working, but some of the data is lacking. We used to get windspeed and directions as well as swell height and windwave height. Now we just get the combined wave data for sea conditions.

Re: Newport Weather Forecast (24-27 March)
Does this mean it won't be worth fishing off the dock or safer spots of south beach jetty at night?
Im not being sarcastic actually was planning to do some night fishing Friday nigh with a few buddies.
Any opinions?
