Stiver and his wife decided Monday morning to go seek help - leaving with a tent, wool blankets, tuna fish and honey, Higginbotham said.

Never underestimate the power of TUNA!

Glad they got out but what the heck were they thinking taking the back road to the coast? My wife saw them on tv and in her insightful way wondered if they were planting their yearly crops??? No big deal either way just knowing the way they went and having taken it a few times I would never take a motor home down that road in the summer.

It must be nice to be perfect!

Let's be thankful they are alive and well. Geeesh!

not perfect just been out there and know what is/isn't there.
I would believe the same brilliant person who told me that it was a good road and a lot faster may have influenced them.

All I know is they packed for the long haul/very smart.

Seemed like they knew where they were going and in past couple of years it would have been open. There are no warnings on maps the roads/anywhere which tell you stay out of there until the thaw. so every couple of years someone is stranded and unfortunately some die. Should have BIG signs saying roads are NOT maintained during winter.

Unbelievable what lengths some will go to to speculate and find negatives.

If only we had all been born so full of knowledge.

Yea, it was dumb to those of us that are familiar with the country, but alas, there are lots of people out there that do not have that experience.

And of course, the guy had long hair, must be a pot farmer.....

What good comes from such derogatory specutlation???

great that they are alive. I have always said that if you are gonna get stranded it is best to do it in a well stocked mobile home.

Nice to hear a good outcome to one of these stories.

I heard an interview on the radio this morning with the grandmother. It didn't sound like they got too hungry or cold. Apparently they didn't run out of propane. And they even had a small black and white television that they were watching.

Smart people do dumb things all the time. Give them a break!

Reminds me of the time my father came to visit me in Japan. I took him for an afternoon ride in my little car to go sightseeing in the countryside. I got on this little mountain road that kept going up and up and getting narrower and narrower until it was so narrow I couldn't turn around and so twisting that I didn't want to try backing up. The sides were so steep that going off the road could be fatal. Then the road got steep and covered with leaves...wet, slippery leaves. We nearly went off the road. Eventually, I was able to manage to get to the end of the road where there was a small area to turn around. Then we white-knuckled it back down.

Then my dad asked, "Exactly why did we take this road?"

I too was, am may still be, under the huh assumption but found out more info from SO.

Grandparents were from AZ and mom, dad and the kids haven't been in oregon very long. Mom had never seen the ocean and still hasn't. Wonder what the GPs will do to get home until the thaw which will probably be after it breaks all the water lines etc.

Stinking maps make the road look like a paved road but should have been apparent at grave's creek?

Talk about bad luck. Stuck in the snow for 17 days and then get the go to jail card.

ASHLAND, Ore. - Arizona authorities have issued a warrant on drug-related charges for two of the six people rescued from a snowbound motor home this week, a newspaper reported Friday.

Somebody had some decent intuition I guess.

you gotta be kidding right
you've deduced this from the fact that there is a warrant,if their "********" then their doing alright, they got a nicer motorhome than my camp trailer
from what I heard on the radio today is that ONE of them has a warrant, and he says that its a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
personally I'm just glad to hear that they all made it out OK, as for the rest of it,who cares.

LOL that's what they all say!
Seriously though, making a mistake or two in life (like having a warrant) doesn't make one a bad person, nor does it mean they desrve to get lost in the woods and die. I'm glad they made it out too, especially the kids.

Thats what I was getting at also, and the wrong place at the wrong time does happen, even though its often poor judgement that put us there. no matter if the charges are true or not it doesnt warrant (no pun intended) the attack of these people who very easily could have died.

:yeahthat

It is hard for me to believe that they would not have been charged in AZ if they were the big bad dealer. Something is missing in this story. User maybe and being used by the police as a drug buyer to get the big bad guy. Grandma and grandpa knowing how dangerous this is left and came to Oregon. Just to save their life. People get killed doing this kind of undercover work.

I would just as easy believe the wrong place at the wrong time.

Messing around with drugs at every level is wrong so don't get me wrong on this but there is a big difference between a big dealer and a sometime user. Why were they not charged in AZ at the time of the offence.

I am glad they survived.

I agree with Ken, to a certain degree. I've been around law agencies enough to know how this can come about.

We haven't heard the whole story about their contact with authorities in AZ.

They were rescued. Thank the Lord.

Everything after that is for them to deal with.

After the latest news about this family; Grandpa is wanted in Arizona for selling meth, you kinda wonder if being stuck for 17 days didn't give them a chance to make some. Then "Grandpa needed medicine" so sent the kids out to be rescued. What a bizarre world we live in

And reading what some of the Perry Mason 'wanna be's' have written, just confirms how bizarre it can be at times.....

Glad we got to the bottom of this....... mom and dad grabbed the kids and grandkids as hostages and headed for the snow covered mts. of So. Oregon to hide out in a motorhome for the rest of their lives....... Plant pot seeds in 4' of snow and wait and wait and wait and wait for their crop to mature so they can send the grandkids to town to sell dope, buy more meth, and return to the mountains to live happily ever after in a meth induced coma of contentment.

Case closed. "Book 'em Harry............"

Yea, but that was just between sowing seeds in the snow......

Gotta stay warm some how!?!?!!!. Why waste propane on just heating?? I am sure the meth cooking was a just a bi- product of keeping warm...

Oh, and wait until the authorities find the cache' of Ouzi's, AK's and ammo......!!

My wife also makes me watch movies like american president. ya know michael douglas annette bening (i'm looking this up as i type i'm no denozo). any who there is one line in the movie and it is (probably buthchered): "The greatest thing about our country is i can stand on the street corner and scream what i think at the top of my lungs and in total disagreement you can do the same."

to have someone disagree with you shouldn't bother you it should make you glad to be in america. if i had spoken my mind and lived in cuba i would be glad that russia isn't lettintg them send political prisoners to siberia. i hate the cold. last thing is also remember what you say mean and spiteful like usually doesn't hurt the one you aim it at it usually hurts the real victims. in my case it is the 2 yunguns that were along for the ride. sorry kids.

as mcqueen said in tom horn and that is all i have to say on this subject

respectfully,

jvp

Nice reference!
I love a good pop-culture reference, I wonder if anyone else got it?

rescued from an RV with power, food, shelter and TV... made out to look like survivalists and now they are being treated like heros for "surviving" in their motor home.
This is the a crock... I agree 100% with salmo.
