forget the Pips leader dispensors!!
Here is THE best way to carry your pre-tied leader set-ups: Buy a 12"x12" piece of 1/4" cork board, not the "natural" looking stuff, you want the smooth light colored cork. Cut 2 identical pieces for each leader board you want to make the size of an index card (3"x5"). I make mine a little longer and a little narrower than that because they fit in my vest better. Take the 2 pieces and glue them together with the natural slight curls facing each other with contact cement. Put them bettween some heavy books for 2 days to dry. Then cut matching shallow V notches along each of the 2 long sides with a SHARO razor knife, about a 1/2" apart from each other. If you use larger lures on your leaders like the bigger Spin-n-Glos, you might want to make your V-notches 3/4" apart. You put each hook around the edge of the board and wrap your leader on the 2 matching V-notches. I've been making and using these boards for 20 years, and they've never nicked my leaders, you can put them on + off as many times as you want, they always will float no matter how much you have tie on your leader set-ups, and they make it easy to pick out the specific set-up you want even in low light, because the cork provides excellent contrast to the leader line, hooks, drift-bobbers, etc. Forget those stupid Pips dispensers!

How about using pipe insulation? Works great!

Great design. Been using it for 25 years. Nothing better. You can get the good gasket cork at automotive store. May have to special order. Can even get it thick enough so you don't have to glue two halves. Kinda spendy though but they last a long time. they also float when you drop them in the river. I get about 10 corkie tieups on a card.

Cant get any easier than this IMHO -- 1/2 inch insulation from your home center cut into 6 inch lengths. Lightweight, flexible, floats -- make them up the night before and stuff two or three in your vest and you are good for the day.

Re: forget the Pips leader dispensors!!
Been using the pipe insulation for a couple of years. It's the only way to go IMHO.
The PIPS deal would always tangle inside when you have a full deal and it gets wet(and your in a hurry).
Have insulation for sturgeon(1 with #10 & 1 with #6's) Several for chinook and several for steelhead. Just pop witheverone into the diddy bag and leave the big honkin tackle box at home.

I use both pipe insulation and Pip's boxes. I find the Pip's fits in my pocket a little easier than pipe insulation.

Re: forget the Pips leader dispensors!!
I just found out about pips oooh, half a year ago. I have to say that I LOVE THEM! I would have more if it didn't cost stinkin 8 bucks to get one. I have had trouble with some of the older ones, but the new ones I don't have any trouble with and I think they work great!

Guys-
Thanks for mentioning the insulation! I've seen that before in guy's arsenals, but never known quite what to do to acquire it. The pic helped lots! Will try it, as I am recently frustrated by Pips.

How well does the 12 x 12 cork fit into your fishing vest? Pips or pipe insulation work for me.
