danner boot squeek fix
here is what i did to fix the squeek, on my chineese danners. delace the boot, clean with rag. then on the top of the tounge take some 60grit sandpaper and rough up the leather, avoiding the thread, grease the boots heavy everywhere and on the roughed up tounge area, let dry, relace and give them a try. how long the squeek stays gone, i do not know yet, but it is completely gone right now.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
Good ideas. I ended up sending my $260.00 Danners back to Cabelas (great customer service BTW) because of the squeak, as well as the goretex lining coming un-glued from the boot too. I went with Cabelas brand, high end "guide style" (everybody wants to be a guide, right LOL) and they've been great boots, FYI.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
I fixed the squeak by swearing to never buy another pair of Danners.
It also fixed the leak and falling apart problems
The boots I replaced them with are wearing in the right boot faster than the left. I assume its because my wallet is in my right pocket and its heavier than when I bought Danners.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
Man,
whats with all the trash talking about danner? I didn't know they were so hated.
I've had a number of pairs of danners and they have been exceptional boots. I've tried to buy a pair of Lighter weight Rocky boots at Joes for Bowhunting. I used them for a few weeks, then it sprinkled. First day walking through damp grass and my feet got soaked. I took them back to joes and went and bought another pair of danners.
as for them being expensive. - Don't buy them from cabellas or Joes. go to the outlet and buy the seconds...
Anyway - enjoy whatever boots you have on your feet. For me I'll stick with the danners for now.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
I agree with shawn. Danner makes an excellent boot and with proper greasing there should be no squeeking problems. I would not buy another pair of boots except Danners. That is based on the performance of every type of terrain possible my boots have been exposed to and having absolutley no problems.
As for cost, Go to the outlet as said before in Portland (Take I-205 to the Airport Way East exit and look for the Danner sign on the right after you cross 122nd Avenue) were you can find exscellent deals, on all kinds of styles. You can pickup a excellent all around hunting boot pair of seconds that has crooked stitching or something minor like that for under $180, even cheaper sometimes.
For the squeeking fix for those with problems, delace and grease with Danner Boot Dressing, or even better Obenoffs leather conditioner. With the Obenoffs the key is to apply it with your hands because the warmth from your hands helps chemiclally adhere and soak the conditioner to the leather. Everyone has their own preference...this is just mine.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
I am glad you guys like your Danners.
In 3 bow seasons I went thru 3 pairs of danners All from the outlet store as you suggest. I buy a pair in the summer, get 15 or 20 miles on them to get them broke in, and by the end of bow season they have completely fallen apart. The last pair didnt even make it thru weekend deer hunting at the coast after a bow season. I really like the air bob sole for traction, but in one bow season of hunting which is 1 week straight and 4 or 5 weekends for me, over half of the bobs are tore off, the stitching on the side has torn clear out and my socks are showing, somewhere between the stitching tearing and the socks showing the boots lost their waterproofness.
Before the last 3 pair of outlet boots, I went thru 4 pair of full price retail danner boots. I almost got 2 hunting seasons out of them before they fell apart, but only 1 year if I was lucky of waterproofness.
I have been married 13 years and I have bought 7 pairs of danners. There is nothing left of any of them.
The non danner boots I bought last time may or may not hold up, the jury is still out.
I use to wear West Coast boots when I worked in the woods, that were custom made for me, if it didnt take greasing them every week to keep them waterproof, I would buy another pair. That and they weigh about a ton.
Maybe I need to road hunt more

Re: danner boot squeek fix
if the danners say made in the usa in them i have had years of hard use out of them. if they say made in china, they squeek, just greasing them has not worked. the sandpaper and greese is better. also a danner not made out of all leather just is wrong somehow. if you are buying the cordura boots, that may be the issue. synthetic boot made in china.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
I have pretty much written off Danners, but I think I'll give their work boot one more shot. The "super rain forrest" I think it's called. It looks very solid, unlike most of the hunting boots I've seen. (also looks really heavy).
If you buy boots at the outlet and they are seconds, you can't return them, at least that's what I remember from the last time I was there. So when you get 20 feet into the dew covered grass and your feet are soaked... well, $180 doesn't seem like so much of a bargain.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
I had a squeaky pair once and I sent them back after a year and they came back with no squeak. They replaced the entire Gore-Tex booty in both boots. I have had two pairs that leaked before the warranty was up and they did the same thing for me there also. One pair of boots was replaced.
I have nothing but praise for Danner customer service. I also don't think there is a better shanked sole in a hunting boot for walking on rocky ground all day. I haven't alway been happy with them but they have always stepped up to the plate and supported me as a customer.
Sorry to hear otherwise.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
I hardly ever wear a heavy boot any more I use light weight hiking boots. I still keep my heavy Danners in my truck for packing out meat and I agree with the shanked sole when walking on a gravel road with a heavy pack. This year I am going to experiment with some gortex high top trail running shoes. Still need the heavy boot for packing though.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
None of the boots I've tried really have kept my feet dry. Sealskins socks are about the only time my feet have really stayed dry. You can wear them with any pair of boots. So you save a lot of money when you buy without the gortex.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
Danners are the best boots made, IF they're 20 years old like my first two pair, which I still wear. If they are new ones like my other two pair, they leave a lot to be desired.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
Very interesting thread.
I used to like Danner till they sold out. The Super Rainforest seems to be the only good boot they make now and my huntig buddies that wear them say they aint the same as they were.
2 years ago I bought a pair of the Pronghorns. For the first year they were the best. Now my feet get soaked walking across the wet lawn. This isnt exactly bad though because it stops the loud squeaking noise the boots make when dry.
I never considered this was a wide spread problem. I thought the leather had just dried out beyond repair.
I liked the boots because they were light and comfortable. I think I will try some Rocky's for my next set and see how they do.
For heavy snow/pack boot I use Cabelas Guide model boots. They are good but a bit heavy for spot and stalk type hunting.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
I can understand you guys wanting a light weight boot, but I love my leather uppers/rubber lowers. Chipeawa's I believe, I think Schnee makes one also. I have actually walked in a creek all day and not had wet feet at the end of the day. Great sole, tall uppers, lots of ankle support. Just a little heavy, but heck, you gotta build up your legs somehow. Some models of these are pretty trim, not clunky at all.
I don't remember when I bought my last pair, it's been that long ago.

These boots have zero shank in them. You can bend them like a taco shell. If you do any hunting in central/east Or. and walk on alot of rocky country, scab flats, etc. You'll be sorry.
I bought one pair of Rocky's and promptly returned them after one day in the woods. I think they are fine for those southern boy's on their soft ground.
Whites makes a great boot. Irish Setter makes a couple good ones too. When I was a kid I had a pair of Herman Survivors. What ever happened to them? They sell out too?

Baltz is excatly right. It's the top of the tounge that squeaks. I will have to try the sandpaper, last time I pulled my longjohns over the tounge for a temporary fix.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
My problem w/Danner (regarding the outlet store) is once you swipe the card, sign the check, or hand over the cash, the boots are all yours. My wife got me some for Christmas and unfortunatly they were the wrong size. It took 22 of my co-workers calling Danner mgmt before they would let me exchange my pair. Not the best customer service even if it's seconds. I like my Cabelas Guide boots for 80% of what I do. Surprisingly waterproof. Think I'll try the Elk Hunters next (Danner had them in the outlet btw )

Re: danner boot squeek fix
My Danners specifically told me to use theiir "boot dressing" only, no sealant or grease....luckily I only use these for hunting and have lasted 10 years and will probably go another 5 or more....apply the dressing at the end ofhte season and again prior to using em...great boots. Danner winter lights.

Re: danner boot squeek fix
I have to agree with The Texan. The Cabela Meindls were a nice change after years of Danner.
(and this is the first time in my life I ever agreed with a Texan)
