Default frozen fish eggs

I was just told by a guy he can get me a 5 gallon bucket of salmon eggs. He lives in Astoria and getting down to get them from Portland is a 4 hour round trip. The eggs would be well worth the trip. He said he would Just freeze them until I can get there.

I have never had eggs which were previouly frozen. I would think all the eggs would be broken and they would milk out in no time. Has anybody every tried to put up eggs which were previously frozen, and are they worth the effort?

I've done it, they turned out fine!

Rather have them frozen than fermented I think...

Congrats on finding 5 gal! I personnaly don't like eggs that have been frozen before they have been cured. The water crystals put hole in the eggs and skeens, and I don't think they hold up as well. But everyone had a opinion and thats mine Tight lines all........

If at all possible get down there soon enough to get them before they are frozen, or before they've sat in a fridge for more than 3 days! If you get them frozen I suggest doing a combo thaw/cure in egg curing brine. The eggs don't gets squished as much that way and they are more delicate than unfrozen cured eggs. Use the search feature to access my egg cure and brine posts, most of which are on the old Discussion Board. Although I much prefer fresh eggs cured, frozen cured ones do have an advantage of milking out much faster for certain applications. Two of those are using them with sandshrimp for tidewater bobber fishing and the same combo for backbouncing O.C. springers. Good luck with your eggs 'Eggs . - RT
