Default How to remove spray paint from boat?

The boat I bought about a month ago has some brown krylon on the nose of it. The guy has a custom duckblind and apparently he got tired of the nose showing so he kryloned it. The pic shows it best. To me it makes a nice boat look sloppy. Is there anyway to remove this? I tried washing it with mineral spirits, and if I had about 20 hours of time it would come off. There must be an easier way????

Thanks!

Mike

From the picture it looks like it's just on the aluminum and not on any of the painted areas? Have you tried any aluminum polish? Or maybe some 000 steel wool?

I have not tried aluminum polish. The top half on the bow has the standard powder coat texture type paint that most sleds have. I am thinking that part will be harder to get off as it is already starting to chip.

Goof off, tolulene, or acetone. Use a stiff brush or scrubby pad that the solvent won't touch.

Easy-Off. It might take the pinstripe off but you can polish the aluminum back to new with Never Dull. (Try a small area first,,,,ect.) BH

My brother had the same problem. I'll give him a call and see what he did to remove the spray paint.

Denatured Alchohol. I do this all the time. If you want even more cut use Acetone. On the painted surfaces just dont apply as much pressure. If it was standard spray paint from the store it will come right off. Also, easyoff oven cleaner the unscented kind will work too. And use a good rag for the job too. If you want hand painted lettering removed off your boat or vehicle after it has been on a while the Easy Off oven cleaner is the only way to go.....unless they put hardner in or clear coated the lettering.

i`d do the denatured alcohol or... lacquer thinner with DAMP rags(watch the painted surfaces especially with the lacquer thinner)...might also try a rag soaked with paint stripper(do not blob it on and wear nitrile or rubber gloves), try a inconspicuous spot first. than after getting that junk off i`d take some "mothers" aluminum polish and buff the whole thing....if it were mine. let us know what u did and how it turns out. good luck, not as bad as it looks. lacquer thinner will get right after that krylon.

00 steel wool worked perfect, thank you! It came right off all of the aluminum on the bottom and side. And it is slowly coming off the top where the powdercoat is. The boat looks much much better! I am in the process of finishing it up and putting some polish on it. I will post pics when it is done. Man what a bunch of work....

Thanks for the update. I'm sure it does look much better now, without all the camo brown all over.

A bit after the fact........

I had to strip my DB years ago and bought a few spray cans of auto paint stripper for the job. Holy cow!

I was finished in minutes.
