kicker won\'t pee....
I have a 7 6hp yamah that is tempermental in regards peeing. I blow out the port and it works for a while, then it will stop a few trips later( I promptly stop using it when this happens).
My question is how hard is this for me to fix on my own and what do I need to do/ replace?
thx

Re: kicker won\'t pee....
I've had a problem with mud dobbers packing the hole full of mud.I just packed a peice of wire to clean it out.
During the warmer part of the year I had to clean mine almost every trip,at times. Its a pretty common problem.Especially now that were seeing better weather.
I suppose your water pump could be getting weak also. You might change it if its been awhile. Not a hard job.

Re: kicker won\'t pee....
When mine is clogged, I double-up a piece of leader and push the looped end into the port, twist and pull it out. The loop usually catches the piece of whatever and pulls it out. If it isn't clogged, the water pump is about toast and needs to be changed. Good luck.

Re: kicker won\'t pee....
Sounds like your water impellor is missing some wings to me, not the water pump...

Re: kicker won\'t pee....
blow some compressed air back thru the system and see if it cleans it out.

Re: kicker won\'t pee....
Do the right thing and take it apart and inspect it.
Those of us who fish the salt make this an annual inspection on all motors (mains and kicker).
It is relatively easy to do and will save you plenty of money should an issue turn up.
Water pumps are very fickle and they will destroy themselves in very short order without water to cool them. The result could get expensive quick.

Re: kicker won\'t pee....
Water pump impeller... should change it every year to be safe. The "pee" is your early warning sign of the impeller not pushing enough water.
Has it "loaded" up on you and started running weird after trolling for awhile? That is another sign of the impeller.
They develop a "set" which means the rubber becomes less flexible and it doesn't keep a seal against the housing.
Just some information, I just went through this last spring with my Evinrude kicker!
