Default Barometric Pressure

Okay, so I have heard that fish tend to hunker down when the barometer is falling. How fast does the barometer generally have to fall for this to happen, also once the barometer has slowed its rate of decent and is just slowly falling, will the fish still hunker down, or will they once again become active? Doesa rising barometer have the same effect or is it only falling barometric pressure. The reason I am asking is I am planning a fishing trip over the holiday weekend, and see that thereis a good size low pressure front moving in, I know it wil arrive on Friday, should I be okay to fish on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday? Thanks in advance for any reply.

I'd just go fish!
If you don't catch anything, you have an excuse already prepared.

I caught a steelhead once while the barometer was plummeting - and I don't catch many of those.

Don't get me wrong I will still be fishing, I was just curious about this. I don't fish to catch, I fish for the relaxation.

I've just been skunked while anchor fishing 'nooks up the Columbia, so I don't feel especially knowledgable right this minute, so take this with a grain of salt. Barometric pressure activity can effect fish. I don't think it affects their movement as much as their bite. However, some fish closer to spawning will actually start to move toward river mouths and even on up while the BP is falling rapidly. In general, the bite will be somewhat better on a rising BP than falling. But as with the east wind, it's not the biggest factor and they will bite on the down side of those. So fish when you can. The best time is when there are a lot of fish present and the water conditions are right, regardless of the BP. I think . - RT
