Hello there this is kurt. I launched at st. johns bridge and I was heading down the willamette to the columbia and I was marking fish like crazy. I was just wondering if the willamette is open for salmon fishing. And if it is what do they fish with?. Thank you kurt. Any info you could give me would be great. Thank you.
Yes, we do get an occasional school of boneless browns through the lower willamette. If you should land one, whatever you do don't knock it on the head with a fish wacker.

If I knock my own salmon off with the net in the middle of the ocean and nobody saw it, did it actually happen?
Ah yess, finless browns! Don't go out boating after the big rain or else you'll get stunk on. Hey RT what was that abbreviation? I'll trade you, "B.O.H.I.C.A." for our fistfighting bank guys in Hoodsport Wa. Bend over here it comes again!

All joking aside there is a run of Silvers about due in the Clackamas, starts about the first rain with Jacks, then the full size chromers...have heard in the recent past that wiggle warts in firetiger were the ticket. the fish hold up around the mouth of the Clack in the cooler water...have heard that some guides have been targeting these critters..Steve
There is a small bunch of fall chinook which makes it's way over the falls at O.C. Not sure where all they go, I did see a couple of spawning pairs up the S. Fork of the Yamhill River last November..apparently somewhat of a rebirth from days of yore.
those "chromer" silvers turn into "black-er" pretty fast when they get to the Clackamas.
Some of the chinooks go up Mill Creek in Salem ... creek is closed, but I assume they hang around in the river until the water comes up - they're also quite black. Doesn't the McKenzie (sp?) have a fall run ? Or "used to" ?
