Default Ulu ... Do You?

A few years ago, my mom bought me a souveneir knife from Alaska - an Ulu. Rather than collect dust, it's become an essential kitchen tool - I love it. Chopping vegies, crushing garlic, cutting pizza, dicing, etc. It works best by rolling it along the curve of the blade against a cutting board. Does anyone else use one?

My ex mother in law was unfortunate enough to have had a very large brain tumor. She underwent a surgery for it and again was unfortunate to have everything that could go wrong happen. She ended up with no use of her left hand and limited use of her left leg. However I have an uncle that was up in alaska at the time. So I asked him to send one down for me. What a blessing it has been for her! She can still be independent. No one has to cut her food for her, and she still prepares dinner for her husband. I have felt lucky to have been a part of their family and continue to interact with them regularly.
Long story short, yes I've used them and had many family members use them since. They are great knives to have around, and you just never know how much it might mean to someone.

I have a few that I use regularly. One is in my hunting pack, it makes a grat skinner, and as mentioned, kitchen uses are limitless. Just make sure if you get one, get a real one, not a decoration.
They are really easy to make also, a used curcular saw blade and a piece of wood or bone will make a good ULU.
