Re: Spinning Reels
I have fished spinning reels all my life (4+ decades) and have resisted ever buying a conventional or level wind reel. They just do not feel confortable. This year I will be trying spinning reels on both halibut and tuna.
I think the reels you are looking at would do well for casting swim baits of any type. Not sure how long they would hold up on tuna, but near shore bottom fishing would not be an issue.

Re: Spinning Reels
If you want to fish TUNA with spinning set up try the baitrunners from penn or shimono. I have one and they work on tuna and cost about twice of that cheap junk but will last and are made for the abuse of tuna. You can let the bait/swimbaits drift with the bail up and reel when they hit-hence baitrunners. They are sold by cabalas model #BTR6500B for shimano 119$or penn liveliner/slammer#560=129$
I own the Shimono and it is a good reel. Get the one with the most capacity as tuna take the line . Mark

Re: Spinning Reels
I have a mint DAM Quick 4000. It's about the right size and I don't think I've ever used it, though I bought it new more than 20 years ago. It's slightly less expensive than the Penn or Shimano. I could let it go, as I prefer conventional reels. If you like, PM me an offer. I can send photos. I have other Quicks and Penn Z series reels I could also sell.

Re: Spinning Reels
Tuna on a coffee grinder...
We caught eleven 20-30lb albies that day, all on fishtraps, and half of 'em came on this rod/reel combo. No problemo, and huge amounts of fun.
This is a Fin-Nor FIN-ITE 207 loaded with 30lb Maxima. I got it off a big auction site for $30. At that price I can afford to replace it every year - only I haven't had to.
It doesn't cost nearly as much to catch fish as it does to keep up with the Joneses.

Re: Spinning Reels
No that was another jack in the box brand. I re-tired that one, well it fell apart. I have a new baitrunner. It works well.
