Default Tongue Pt. Sturgeon clues needed

I have been Sturgeon fishing The Chinook and Baker Bay area for a few years and really enjoy the shallow water. Have had a ball and a lot of success fishing in 10 ft or less in the mouth of Baker Bay and the pilings inside #7 off off Chinook. I read and hear on the VHF of Tongue Pt. I havent fished any further upriver than the ship that is on the shore on the washington side. Would appreciate a hint or two for fishing tongue pt. Can I cross the river at low tide from the washington side above the bridge? On our first try a few years ago my brother had told me there was a "chicken coop" I should look for above Astoria which lead to a navigating nightmare for us when we tried to get back to the boat ramp in Astoria. Never sighted any chicken coop no matter how much we raked the river with terror-stricken, bloodshot eyes as the sun set on low tide. I figure he was trying to thin out the beneficiaries in the family. I know I can cross straight out from Chinook which is where I moor my boat but I would hate to run all the way down river If I still wanted to fish above the bridge. The guy who lost the fishing setup this weekend to a Sturgeon said he was in 12 ft of water.
Any clues would be nice. I fish the last hour of outgoing tide and the first 2 hrs of incoming in June and July in the pilings and do pretty well but would like to learn a bit more.

FSH4EVR,
I'm the guy that lost the rod and I'm coming back up there this weekend. Rather than cross the river and burn up all that boat gas you may want to try putting in at john day ramp east of astoria. Planning on fishing out of there in the afternoons for sturgeon. there are low tides at 4:45 and 5:45 Sat. and Sun. I was running up there from Ilwaco via boat last weekend and burned a ton of fuel. Was able to cross the river on east side of the bridge. Got out a couple hundred yards and headed S.E. I can give you GPS #'s. I'll be trying to monitor vhf channel 68 as somebody on this BB suggested earlier. Look for a '96 silver/black F-250 OR lic. AYE FSH. I'll be in a dk. green N. River w/ grey top. Look for me all out there by myself east of tongue pt.
That low tide thing seems to be the ticket, sand shrimp on a wire leader produced for us last weekend. aggressive takes. bring plenty of shrimp and an extra setup or two! Hope to run into you,
Todd

the bites on the tongue point flats are very aggressive and more often than not they will be in the air within 5 seconds of hookset. Nice thing about this area is that you can fish sandshrimp and not have to worry about bullheads. I was there 3 weeks ago and picked up 4 keepers in about an hour... Joe
