Im tired of it ,,worn out .
Yesterday I went to the Doctor for the fifth time in the last 6 months. All for relief from an ear infection.
Each doctor spent about 20 seconds looking into my ear and prescribed a drug to fix the infection.
I was givin several types of antibotics ,,I took the perscripyions and the infection would no go away .
Finally the doctor yesterday says "oh, you have ostieomylitious in the ear bone and that he needs to do surgery right away .
The infection in my ear was so bad that the skin has sluffed off and dead bone is exposed.
This has been going on for months and months ,expense has been right at 1000 $ .
The Doc. yesterday ordered a cat scan to see if the dead bone went deep or was a surface thing .
The level of complecation goe up in the proceedure if its deep.
This bone infection would probably kill you in the 60's.
Four doctors missed it !!!!!
Now its emergency surgery.... Grrrrrrrrr.
Venting ,,,,,sorry.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
Its a sad issue in healthcare today, but doctors don't/won't/can't (an issue that is very debateable)spend the time on patients that they need to. You have to demand a more thorough examination and even spend time doing your own research.
I am very sorry for your problem that sounds painful. Hope you are better soon.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
IDP just some light reading on this. I think you've been recovering from some other trauma, back or legs seem to ring a bell. Anyhow maybe its related
From One site I looked at
The infection that causes osteomyelitis often is in another part of the body and spreads to the bone via the blood. Affected bone may have been predisposed to infection because of recent trauma.
In children, the long bones are usually affected. In adults, the vertebrae and the pelvis are most commonly affected. Bone infection can be caused by bacteria or by fungus. When the bone is infected, pus is produced within the bone, which may result in an abscess. The abscess then deprives the bone of its blood supply.
Chronic osteomyelitis results when bone tissue dies as a result of the lost blood supply. Chronic infection can persist intermittently for years.
Risk factors are recent trauma, diabetes, hemodialysis, and intravenous drug abuse. People who have had their spleen removed are also at higher risk for osteomyelitis.
Good luck

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
Thanks for the input .
I am recovering from a spinal injury that almost killed me.
It will be 4 years this April 14th .
Last spring I cut my fingers while working in the soil.
I got a strange infection from teh cuts and it took cipro to get it controlled.
I may have picked up teh Bacteria then and it waitted till it found a weak spot in my ear to hit and do damage.
I still feel like I was neglected by the health care persons I saw.
Thanks id. p.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
You got it cliff.
Last Sept. while tuna/ Halibut fishing I was dealing with the same infection.
Halibut fishing was not enough to over come the effects of the ear thing and I got sea sicker than Ive ever been.
As soon as Marc Mc announced that they were headed to tuna town another 20 miles out ,,,my head cleared , my tummy firmed up and I didnt felt sick the rest of the day .
Of course I was slightly preoccupied with TUNA....
Ill be there, no little bone infection gonna hold me back .... hiho.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
IDP - there's a reason they call it Medical "Practice"
I'm constantly frustrated by the "let's see what drug will make this better" mentality, rather than "hmm, what's causing this and how do we FIX it?" mentality.
I'm hoping for the best results for you. I hope it isn't deep and you heel fast! TUNA! town awaits!

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully the surgery goes well and you heal up fast.
If you don't mind me asking, what was wrong with your spine 4 years ago? Was it the condition or the surgery that almost killed you?
I remember that day last September. We were at the ranch when you were talking with Mark MC over the radio. We ended up going about 12 miles from the Ranch and tied into a few longfins as well.
Good luck

Chris, sorry to hear about this. Hang in there bro.
One thing I never lose sight of at the doctor's office or emergency room is that nobody cares more about the outcome than I do. I ask questions and push the doctor to do the extra stuff they feel like they do not have time for.
Be proactive.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
Thanks for the kind words .
The C6 disk in my neck crushed my spine.
Someone was watching over me, cause I should be a quad sitting in a wheel chair. Im still learning to walk though.

Rather than be crippled for ever, I was givin the gift of loving life .
Each day is a CELEBRATION.
AP. Thanks for the note and Ill see you again this summer . id. p.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
Chris, go to Dr. McDevitte to get a 2nd opinion. His office was a couple blocks behind the old library off of Clark St.
If he is still in practice it would be my highest recommendation.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
I have had a few doctors stand across the room, not that I blame them, and tell me what I have and write that script. With little or no actual examination how do they know?

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
Each Doc. took a short look in my ear and said , yep" ear infection."
I told each one that I had never had an ear infection before in my entire life ...
They didnt seem to care,,,, just the same old same old to them ,,,,and it cost ME once again.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
Seems to me the choices are:
1) Try different treatments for something that is probably difficult to pinpoint with complete precision...with each treatment taking a possible diagnosis off the table. (the course they ran with you)
2) Order up dozens of tests (if avaialable) that would test for any of the possible problems, which your insurance may or (more likely) may not cover...thus saving time to diagnose, but costing you a bunch of $$ up front from insurance lapses.
Either way though, the good news is that they know what it is and know how to fix it now. The bad news is that.... scratch it....focus on the good news. Help is on its way and you'll soon be back out battling our finned friends. Hang in there!

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
CT. Right on.
I get frustrated at times and LIG is my best out let
for what Ive been thru the last 4 years , Im tired .
The bone has been exposed in my ear all along , it only took about one minute for the doctor to suck off enough ooz to see that there was raw dead bone exposed.
A more complete examination would have revealed the actual problem. I believe.
Im not in the blaming game , lord knows I have my own short commings .
Ill get well and be fishing soon.
Without a positive outlook I would not be believing that ...
CT . You still have a fish trip in my boat sometime ifin you want ..... id. p.

Re: Im tired of it ,,worn out .
yeah, medical practice. I had an issue last year that two different doctors missed. When I finally got the issue resolved I sent em both a letter letting them know what it turned out to be. I hope your issue is resolved soon, sounds like its been quite long enough.
