Halibut tomorrow!!!!
Wooo Hooo! The moon, sun, and stars are all aligned for a great day of Hali fishing tomorrow out at Coyote Bank in Canada.
Wind NE 10 kn. wind waves 1 foot or less
Slack @ 10:45AM
Very light currents the rest of the day
Partly sunny
Coyote is about 30 miles out of Anacortes WA and with the weather forecast that will be just under an hour in my boat. It will be awesome to get a salty trip in this early in the year.
Wish us luck!
Cheers!

"Halibut tomorrow!!!!"
I thought you were spying on me. I just got done making Halibut Chowder for tomorrow. Not quite as good as actually getting to go catch one this weekend, but my mouth's watering.

Re: Halibut tomorrow!!!!
So... how does that work? Can you fish an open season in Canada, and then land in Anacortes? I'd assume you'd be fishing under the aegis of a BC license? What if you get checked in WA on the way in?

Re: Halibut tomorrow!!!!
As long as you are not fishing it is legal to land a Canadian daily limit of 2 Halibut. The possession limmits are slightly different, so you can not land a full possession limmit from Canada of 3 Halibut. You also can not fish in US waters if you are in possession of a Canadian fish that are not legal in the US.
The weather did not exactly cooperate today and it was a bit sloppy. We made the run out there and it was more like 3 - 4 foot wind waves. We fished for a couple hours with no hits and decided to run back to the US side and look for some Blackmouth.
Cheers!

Re: Halibut tomorrow!!!!
If you have canadian fish onboard you can not stop in US waters. You must go straight back to your port and unload the fish before heading back out. If the fish you have are legal in the US then you can stop. Last year I was coming back from canada with halibut when there was a distress call from US waters. I was fairly close so I headed that way. I called the Coast Gaurd and told them that I had canadian catch onboard and asked that they record that so if I was checked there would be record of it. The coasties beat me to the call so I did not have to stop.

Re: Halibut tomorrow!!!!
I am thinking of Neah Bay again this year. We limited two days last year. Some guys got BC licenses and Washington licenses. Can you order them by mail or on the internet? Let me know. Thanks and good luck.

Re: Halibut tomorrow!!!!
You can get a BC license online, but you cant fish Swiftsure Bank with it. You have to physically go to Canada and buy your license to fish Swiftsure.
Good Luck!

Re: Halibut tomorrow!!!!
SnowDog,
Thanks for the report!
Also, there is a weather buoy at Hein Bank:
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=46088
Perhaps that will save you some fuel in the future.
Regards,
Hans

FWIW, Hein Bank was fine! We didn't hit the wind until later.
