Are We Blessed Here in Oregon...or What?
I saw this old postcard the other day and it reminded me of a photo I have somewhere (I couldn't find it though) of a buddy of mine who when I took a snapshot of him, he was posing with a coastal blacktail buck he had killed that morning, two dozen Dungeness crab we had also collected from "over night" pots and a couple of nice greenheads that he had shot the day before. When we do run across that photo...we always give thanks for the wild bounty we have here where we live.
Any southern Oregon ifishers recognize these old timers here that had a banner day with venison and salmon also? Ol' "Pocket Watch" Pete...looks like he ate well that Winter...as well as the Spring, Summer and Fall before.

Heck yes we are blessed.
In fact, I need to clean out the roof gutters as the blessings are totally overflowing them!

We truly live in the best place on earth. I know with the gloom & doom of salmon runs & off shore problems, as well as Pintails, Duskies and Bluebills, hair loss on Deer, Cougars and Coyotes, we are on the edge, but we really do live where god vacations!!!!

Yes we are. We definately have a lot more species to hunt than most states for both birds and big game.
We have it pretty darn good

Re: Are We Blessed Here in Oregon...or What?
So do we lived in a blessed spot?
We have salmon problems (but we HAVE problems... the east coast and Europe don't because they don't have salmon!)
We have restrictive pintail limits (but here we get to sort through pleny of big, fat, pinny's before we shoot our one!)
I could probably add to this list, as many of you could, but I think my point is made.
We do indeed lived in a blessed place on this rock. I wouldn't have it any other way. You are so right on Wes!

I can't imagine a better place on Earth to raise a kid right now. Lord knows there are many, many places worse than here!

Re: Are We Blessed Here in Oregon...or What?
Yes indeed...thanks for the responses here as I knew I wasn't the only one who understands how good we have it as residents in Oregon. Wild game, berries, shrooms and a host of other wonderful things are available to us.
I believe at anytime of the year, we can venture out into the field and stream, valley and hills and be a "hunter/gatherer" and enjoy the experience. I have a few cousins who grew up in Chicago and still live in areas where concrete and high rises substitute for rivers and mountains. Haven't spoken with that part of my Clan for years but I can pretty well imagine that they can't relate to what we have out here. Sorry for them.

Re: Are We Blessed Here in Oregon...or What?
Ive started to realize how blessed we are. We have so many different types of hunting in OR with great limits and respectable restrictions. Big game, waterfowl, upland, sooo many different types of fishing, and awesome areas to do other outdoor things. If I could choose one place to live it would be right here where I am at all due to the versatility of this state.

Brother...
I guess because I mentioned being able to go out and pick wild berries earlier...when I first read your quote above I thought it said "micro berries...and I couldn't figure out what you were talking about.
Sometimes I just got to read a little slower and many times a second time through.

I hear it was so they could spend more "quality time" with pretty, 16 year old indian guides
You know, If they did that today, they would be considered criminals.
It is interesting how time changes perception.
Wes, You are still right on, Man, we are very blessed out here. Where else could you get: Ducks and geese and crab and winter steelies (Winter)
,
Turkey, Springers, More steelies, Panfish, Bear, Shrooms(Spring)
More Springers, Steeelhead, Trout, Panfish, Cougar, Berries, (summer)
And Waterfowl, Upland Birds, B ig game, Fall run Anadromous fish, More shrooms, Nuts and even a sunny day here and there (Fall)
This is a s good as it gets.
When we die, we go to Cleveland, this is Heaven folks!
