That is some interesting stuff. It is a bit hard to believe that a company that was pushing max-4 so recently is now referring to it as such complete garbage.

I would like other's opinions on this topic. Well mudded max-4 looks pretty dang similar to our local foliage, and I would like to understand the "black hole" effect.

I really don't care if the designer never hunted.

BW-can you change the subject of this thread to something referring to Avery and Max4?

Of course it is, Lonnie. It's great to be able to justify a money decision by talking about "black holes."

I just don't understand Tom Matthews... If MAX-4 is such a bad pattern then why did they decide to go with it in the first place?? If he knows so much about the "right" camo for the "right" hunting scenario then why didn't he test the pattern for himself first?? Is he just trying to make Avery look bad?!

Avery will be carrying Nat Gear this year along with field khaki, shadowgrass and Break up.

There is a lot going on beneath the surface of what has been said.

I was wondering about that, those comments seem to come from a natgear perspective. They have been saying that type of stuff about almost all other camo patterns for about 8 or 10 years now. It will be interesting to see how they admit to max4 as a mistake and change their tones in the future advertisements. BTW I really like max4 as well, I just don't use it in particularly light vegetation, but I think that hunters are smart enough to figure that out, we don't need mathews to confirm it for us...

You cant tell how well a camo works when your standing in the vegetation or trees looking at yourself. Ive seen pictures of myself and other people while hunting and they either stand out terribly or they blend in very well all due to their selection in camo. Mossy oak break up, Old shadow grass, and thats it for me. I use the break up when i hunt Sauvies Island for the most part, and the shadow grass for when im goose hunting or hunting in the corn or fields.

Different camo patterns for different situations....simple as that.

There is no one camo that is perfect in all instances.

Vegetation plays a large factor, as does light condition.

Thats why it is so important to not rely on what you are wearing to conceal you....use what's around you as you camoflauge....and act like you're wearing a white space suit. It never hurts to be doubly sure of concealment.
