Ive never heard of it for the saltwater. I wouldnt thinkit would last more than a season with the corrosion factor involved. unless he wanted to strip all the line off and rinse it everytime he went out.

Overkill is a understatement.

Might be good for offshore sharks though

Certainly some stainless wire alloys do alright in salt. Think about commercial troll gear. Downrigger cables. These last quite a while.

I have never heard of braided stainless for fishing other than as leader material. I have done some wirelining, but that was always single strand Monel.

Tell us more. What is the line diameter? How many strands? What pound test?

Regardless, I wouldn't use it. Get another spool for the reel, fill it 3/4 of the way with 80 pound spectra and then put a 50 pound mono topshot on it of no less than 100'. Good to go.

S-I,

When I moved to Portland 7 years ago I learned to fish Sturgeon with a couple of old-timers who still used stainless wire for the deep water up at Bonneville. This was the predecessor to Braided spectra type lines, and it did (and does) work very well. But....if you ever get a birdsnest in this stuff, you are down for the count.

It will absolutely fuzz up on you to an unbelievable degree. And there is no easy way to fix this stuff. And dangerous too...

A half hitch of braid could certainly remove a digit, but it just doesn't seem to want to loop up like that. The stainless wire however does this on a regular basis and is frightening to see happen. Safety reasons alone, I would never use the stuff.

Also the rigging. Crimps are a pain to use on a boat, and this is really the only way to rig it. Knots just don't work well.

Stuff belongs in museum in my opinion. Was the best at it's time, but now we have so much better.
