Default sheep out of Warmsprings (pic)

Last week, I was heading over to Redmond for the Sportsman show, and as i was driving on Hwy.26 heading up the hill just out of Warmsprings, these two yews caught my eye on the hill. It was a surprise to see them in that area. I got to talking with a fella at the show, and he said those two Yews have been there by themselves for 3 years. The State believes they ventured off from the John day herd, and liked it and decided to stay. He also said that they were hoping to get a Ram in with them, and try and build the numbers. Interesting to say the least.

i first saw them about a year and a half ago. They were just east of the 45 mph curve about 100 yards off the road. I almost didn't believe it when I first saw them.

nobody is happier to see that than me...years ago on my in-laws propert in Sisters, during a Rodeo w/e party, I went for a bike ride for some serenity and almost fell off my bike when I saw a herd of these right on Camp Polk road, probably 20 or more! I froze, they froze, and in an instant they sped off leaving a ton of hoof prints. I rode as fast as I could back to the property exlaiming excitedly what I saw. Of course, they all laughed and accused me of drinking too much. Took my wife over and showed her the prints. Back in town, with my curiousity piqued, I called the ODFW and they indeed stated that they likely migrated from John Day. My in-laws have had property out there for 40 years and have never seen one. I was lucky.

I guess its been ten years or more now but I saw two sheep on the back side of the Siskiyou summit just inside the Oregon border. They are spreading out and that is only a good thing. Maybe there is hope to draw a tag someday while I can still walk.

I drove up on a whole herd on Hwy 140, probably 15 or 20, within sight of the Adel store. They let me take pics, and I finally got back in the rig and drove off. I figured they were from the Hart Mt herd. Always fun to see them.
