Default Bearing Buddy grease amount ?

My new to me trailer has bearing buddies. I never cared for the concept, however, here they are. So my question is how many pumps on the grease gun is enough or too much for annual maintenance purposes? I use to pack my old trailer full once a year leaving little to no room for water. This is new to me.
Thanka much

I generally grease until the springs begin to contract. It is also a very good idea to keep the plastic bearing buddy bras in place. This helps keep them clean and allows you to observe the spring.

Also the bras keep grease off your wheels.

I have bearing buddies. People think they don't need service. I take mine apart at least once a year. I clean ,check the bearings and put in new seals.

Push on one side of the piston. If it rocks a little, there's enough grease. If it doesn't, pump enough in (slowly) to move the piston out a bit. Don't over do it. I stop as soon as the piston starts to move.
I repack my bearings every year, and the Buddies get taken apart and cleaned. Not much to 'em. Just a snap ring, spring, piston and a seal.
I might switch over to oil bath this spring. I'm tired of the annual repack. It ain't no thang, but I'm getting old and lazy.

i grease mine until the plunger moves out alittle and i dont like the bra`s, they form an air tight chamber and wont let the spring in the bearing buddy push to the rear of the hub like its supposed to and they hold condensation.

Check the Bearing Buddy website, and they'll give you the process, and the explanation of what Buddy Bearing do.

I'm with "1pump", although when the wheel and grease is cold, the plate does not move as easily, so you may want to add grease when it is not needed (too much is not good). Often I'll recheck after I tow the trailer a mile or two.

Guys,

The bearing buddy covers on my trailor fell off and I have grease on my wheels now. Looks nasty!

Show I get new covers or are the wheels ok w/o them?

Many thanks.

There is a little, small, debate as to the need of the BB rubber covers. Running with them can hold moisture in, thus leading to rust, and causing the bearings to wear out. If you run without them and you have grease slinging out all over this is a sign of over greasing you bearings, pumping to much in is also a way to ruin the bearing seals (causing grease to seap out). It is just personal preference weather to run with, or without them, I run with out them and don't have grease on my wheels. Good luck, and service your bearings

Once again my thanks to all. I will do a take down and service. Probley give me a better understanding of how they really function. Sounds like no covers with not too much grease is the best.
Thanks
