Default Brookings Chinook???

Anyone heard of action at Brookings?? I have read a thread a oregonlive.com alluding to hot action there. I have fished Brookings many times before and found the Chinook fishing slow and the water warm this time of year. Knocked the tuna dead about 10 miles out a couple of years ago though.

Got a weeks vacation coming up and ocean fishing sure sounds good.

Yes, I saw the same report, looks.......or at least sounds very promising. You questioned the ocean temps in that area. According to the sea surface temperatures found at NOAA, the ocean is still a nice 14 degrees c. around Brookings, I believe that's around 55 - 56 degrees F.. The warmer water is still way off shore near Brookings, must be like 60 plus miles for some reason. That cold water band extends from the southern coast all the way up to just below the mouth of the Columbia. At the Col. mouth it's more like 65.8 F.. No wonder the better tuna fishing is 60 plus miles out right now. Looks like my tuna fishing will have to wait this year.

Personaly, I think you should go and post a nice informative post when you get back!! :-)

CORRECTION to my previous post. The colder 14 C. water is actaully 57.2 F. and the 14 c. band falters right close to Newport and gives way to 16 and 17 c. water. The 14 c. band runs south to the border. Brookings still looks good. There is warmer 17 C. (62.6 F.) degree water just north of Newport and moving closer to shore. Looks like tuna may move in closer after all.

I have heard that the South Coast guys are just slaying the Chinook. My contacts say it's the best it has been in years down there.
