Another set of Mystery ducks..this time a pair
What do ya think? These little guys are just a little larger than a teal, and all the dark colors on the drakes back are a dark green. They were shot way out in the middle of one of our larger salt-water bays and could fly superbly.
The odd thing if they were hybrids why was there two and why do the colors match what you'd expect a drake and a hen to be. Also notice the curly's on the drake..must be some mallard in there some where. My best guess is call duck.

Re: Another set of Mystery ducks..this time a pair
Its definately got some mallard in it. The other colors and size make me think maybe a mix with a wigeon?

How come your shooting them when you can't identify them on the wing?
Sound like a case for Mr. Ethics and his what if questions.
How did they taste?
Duckwheat
PS: You guys sure have some mongrel ducks over there.

Thats simple.. I can correctly identify
every wild game duck in Oregon, and in 99.9%of the Pacific Flyway. Take the Tufted Duck, Emperor Goose, or Bean goose for instance, they are not on any Oregon State Regulations. Neither is a Eurasian widgeon or the eiders. And considering I scull which puts me within feet or yards of the birds ID'in them is a piece of cake. The pair I got above looked close enough to a pair of falcated I took'em.

I\'ve been thinking of trading the X2
for a fishing net he-he!! There was a couple of times this last season I had to throw a dog bumper to get'em to fly just so I didn't feel too awful bad he-he...it was like quail hunting but with ducks. Who'd thunk you could actually get too close on open water!

Come over here OR?ID border and I will take you duck hunting. A. They will look like ducks you have seen in a magazine. B. They are edible. C. You won't have to ask for help identifying them.

Thanks Brotherwolf...
and considering the OR/ID border ducks stop off in the Ladd Marsh/LaGrande sewer ponds, and the Baker City sewer ponds right before dropping into the Farewell Bend/Snake River area's and the rest of the Treasure Valley I'll pass on the "tasty" ducks he-he. I'd rather not watch my ducks switching back and forth from the sewer to the blinds he-he. I think ID's "liberal" bag limits are due to this. Hmmm flame me will ya! I'm from Baker. Common ducks bore me.- Wetwrk
