My First B-10 Experience
New guy here. I (my wife and I)fished B10 for the first time on Sat. We went up to experience the "reality of it" just as much to catch some fish. We were not disappointed on either account. The boats were thick and a few fish were being caught. We (my wife again) hooked a fat coho about 50yds up river from THE bouy at about 1200. Since there was only two of us in the boat, I was primarily concerned with steering. I told my wife if we get a take down she would be the one to tend to business. Funny thing is, we have 9" rails on our Duck with Quickset rod holders on top. This puts the rod a little above waist high for me (5'-11"). However, my wife is 5'-1" and when she grabbed the rod she couldn't get the rod up and out of the holder with that fish pulling down. I said you really oughta take the rod out of the holder. She barked "NO"! This was her first salmon. She definitly had her game face on! So I dropped the tiller and tried to help. Mistake. She didn't want help. During the momentary wrestling match the thumb drag on the reel got bumped back and the line went slack. We saw the metallic green Jumbo-Jet float to the surface. She said the fish is gone. I said reset the drag and start reeling (the rod is still in the rod holder). Well what do you know the fish was still on! She reeled that fish up to the boat like she was yardin a log! I again dropped the tiller an quickly netted the fish while noting it was a hatchery and got immediately back on the tiller. The fish is now hopping around in the boat(boy can they catch some air!). It was great! The fish was a hoppin and my wife was a squealin! I handed the tiller to my wife, risky move in itself, and bonked the fish and PULLED THE ROD FROM THE ROD HOLDER. I put the fish in the fish box and got back on the tiller. Then my wife starts cleaning the boat. I said forget it, I'll clean it later. No dice. She wanted to clean. I then realized what was happening. She was really wired! Cleaning is her chi so to speak. She does this at home too. Anyway, the boat got cleaned and we had a good day.
