Default Mechanics question

I have a tacoma that is acting up. I ran an OBD test on it and found that it is the throttle positioning sensor. I am very mechanically inclined when it comes to rebuilding motors however, I have no idea how to reposition it or change it. Any help: how to or cost to fix, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

You will have to purchase a new one. Installation instructions come standard with it. Should have two screws/bolts holding it on. Unplug the old one /install new/plug in. You should be set.
Good luck.

Try checking out some Toyota chat forums online. Someone on there has probably changed the TPS and they usually have pretty good answers. If nothing else, call the dealership and ask them where on the vehicle it's located. They'll usually tell you...they probably won't go into detail, but at least you get an idea where to start looking. If you're mechanically inclined, you should be able to pick it up from there.

It should be on the throttle body. It's just a potentiometer, so your best bet is to just chuck it and get a new one. I don't know about Toyota, but some TPS are adjustable. They're usually pretty easy to test or replace. I would just make sure it has the proper input voltage (Fords run on about 4-5 volts, dunno about Toyota) and output. It's easier to check the output with an analog VOM rather than a digital one so you can watch the needle sweep when you rotate the TPS or throtttle shaft. It should be smooth if the TPS is good. If it jerks, jumps, has dead spots or doesn't move, your TPS is toast.

I changed the TPS on an '86 yota, followed the adjustment instructions, and couldn't get it quite right. Afterwards the throttle was jerky. It was easy for a pro to get it dialed in and I was back on the road with a smooth throttle.
