Default Jig head Hooks?

I received some hooks for some fish trap jig heads I am going to pour. They just do not seem that strong. They are eagle claw 635's. Is there something better? Or will these suffice. I would hate to have the tournament winning tuna get off because of faulty hooks.

The best hooks I have ever seen are on those heavy jigs from Charkbait. They are galvo not s/s but they will not bend the second best are the one Marty uses. He make a mean jig head-those red eye's are super-Thanks Marty

I'd call Charkbait and see if they sell those heavy one alone and ask what they are ?? They are on the jig head page but are a little hard to find there if I recall. They will not bend when the 30+#'s show up. They have an 800 # and are open regular hours in AM. Mark

The heavy ones Mark C. mentions....that's what we use for trolling with swimbaits / Tunabites (esp. the larger swimbaits). However they are too big for the small swimbaits.

The thin wire hooks for the casting jigheads....Owner, Gamakatsu & Mustad make the strong, wide-gap version.

Aberdeen Jig Hooks: Mustad #32755 - #32756;

O'Shaughnessy 9175 series & 91715 for larger sizes

Gamakatsu # 604

Those heavy duty 8/0 'tuna hooks' are a mustad #34185D, but they are too big for any of the molds out there and you will have to have them custom machined to make them fit. The other ones I use are the super sharp E.C. L730BPM in the platinum black in the 4/0 and 6/0 sizes. They look pretty thin, but so did the 9/0 E.C. hooks that Les and James wacked the big tuna one. Personally, I have never had any problems with the 730's as far as tuna are concerned. I sometimes get kinda excited when the bite is on and I can tweek the hooks out with the pliers if I don't watch it.........but you won't loose any tuna on it.

It pays to use the super sharp hooks because the tuna will eat those traps and not even know they are hooked until they open their mouths 10 feet below the boat and they are gone. Set the hooks hard when the line is peeling out and you will be good.

4 more months and we will be good to go.........
