Default Glow in the Dark!

A few weeks ago a friend urged me to try something new. I'll share it. We were fishing offshore from Newport out at the Stonewall Bank ( aka The Rockpile ). I've never used hootchies much being a bait guy. The idea was to make the hootchies more visible at the depths where we wanted to fish. So we stuffed a 3/8" glow in the dark corkie in the 'head' of the hootchie with some chartreuse beads to space the hook to the tips of the fronds. We also put two hootchies on the same otherwise normal mooching rig. About 4" apart on a 36" leader. The corkies glow and give the hootchies an up and down action, the beads click and make noise. We used green and chartreuse and nightglow green and white hootchies. So at BCD (butt crack of dawn) we get to stonewall and downrig a hootchie and a flasher to 40 feet. First we charged it up with a camera flash. We tried and tried but could never rig more than two of the four rods we wanted to run. We hit double after double. I think the down rigger made it to 40 feet only once that morning. We boated 14 silvers in a hour and tagged 8. Has anyone else tried this? I can't tell if the rig kicks ass or the fish are just not particular. Any way I've tied some more glow rigs and they are going to sea with me Sunday. When you see the flash you'll know what the deal is........... The bend is your friend!

Pilar,
SSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH, your given up more of my favorite tricks!!!! I've been riggin' my hooches with glow in the dark beads for about 4 years now. I haven't used corkies, just the beads. I will mix them with green, red or just run all glow in the darks. Tie your hooks close (hook to shank) and use the beads to adjust the trailing hook to the end of the hooch's skirt.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Friday Fisher... It's also called the Rockpile and its about 18 miles SW of Newport. There was a hell of Coho fishery there until they hit the Quota of 20,000 fish and closed it. You go 215 degrees when you clear the jetty at Newport.

GPS# Lat. N44 32.300' Lon. W124 22.123'

That will get you to the flat spot between the two rockpiles. The reef is miles long and varies in width and depth. It runs pretty much North to South. I think there is still a Chinook only fishery still going on there although the participants are being pretty covert about it. Hope that helps, sorry if I confused you with a local name. I'm heading to the beach now, later dudes! The bend is your friend!
