Thanks for the heads up, I knew this case was moving along. This could end up being a bad deal. I noticed in my American Hunter magazine that back East the courts ruled that a duck club was NOT agriculture, but was instead recreational lands and thus changed there tax status, so there is starting to be recognition of what things really are.

I don't think it's hunting as much as it is regulation of certain non-native cervids...

The state contends that you are "hunting", even though the activity is on pvt property and for non native species (elk, bufalo, etc, are not native to the ranch area in question). Since "hunting" is regulated by the ODFW, they believe they can regulate high fence operations and they want to stop the practice.

Now Bill, You know those exotics never escape the confines of the "hunting" area right??? So why would they need regulated??

Just look at all those wonderful new wild pigs we have!!

I hope they shut em all down.

You forgot CWD, TB and HLS. I saw the other day that the CWD that has spread across the country has been tied to game ranching. TB has been a threat for a long time and nobody can confirm or deny where the heck HLS came from, most probably on an animal though imported from overseas.

If we keep messing around enough with old mother nature, she is going to smack us up along side the head. The problem I have with game ranching is that it falls under agriculture, and we have to pay to dispose of infected animals and there is no liability for damages to our wildlife if they are infected. That is just too much of a one way street for me. It really boils down to what is in the publics best interest.

The biggest mistake we can ever do is let these "ranches" fall under the control of the Ag. boys. If it ever does these types of operations will explode in numbers. Then it will truely be a mess. IMO the best thing to do is a Montana. (Make them illegal for just the reasons you stated)

This case was heard on March 2nd at Willamette Law School. In talking with a few present is sounds like the state will come out on top.
