Only in Santiam Land.....
I had the privledge and honor bone hunting with Rooseybulls, Santiam338, and A Quest Shooter today. They were nice enough to invite me up to bone hunt their secret shedding grounds.
We did good; as a group we found 7 sheds in one meadow in a span of maybe 5 minutes! No matches!! The biggest shed I found, and I had set my pack within 2 feet of it, walked past it and picked up another shed lying about 15 feet away!!
I'm sure Santiam and AQS will post pictures later of their other finds from the day. Here are a couple to show the goodies for the day.
I ended up with 4 sheds; 3 fresh, and one monster skull. Rooseybulls when I left had 2 sheds, Santiam was up to 5 or 6 and AQS was up to 2. We'll see what the final talleys are later tonight....
Thanks again to Santiam, and AQS. You guys are really nice guys and I look forward to future encounters with you two. And to Rooseybulls, it's been a long time talkin' and I'm glad we finally met up to share in something we both enjoy! I look forward to the next adventure on my turf... hopefully we do this well!

Osulogger

Re: Only in Santiam Land.....
It was a great trip and a load of fun....I didn't find the other half of your big 4,but I tried...LOL
Here is Quest shooter,OSUlogger and Roosybulls taking a needed break...
I am taking tomorrow off....4 days in a row and about 40 miles...I NEED IT...LOL
I ended up with 5...I did find a matching fork though...I would guess the 2 halves were better than a 1/2 mile apart...

YEPPERS it was a great day afield. It was nice to meet osu logger and roosybulls. (good people). Obviously osu had the shed god's on his side today... I ended up with 2.
We were laughing about the big 4 pt. shed by ous's pack, when rosey spotted one up the hill about 20 yards ( that was great)..... All and all a great outing.....

Re: Only in Santiam Land.....
It was the weirdest set of events ever in modern shed hunting history...
We had just all met up after about 4 hours of hard hunting with only a couple sheds to show for it...I knew a south facing ridge that had been good in the past so we spread out like pheasant hunters and started out...We were just coming into the meadow from the timber and being greedy, I glassed the meadow in front of Matt and Ken who were below me trying to spot a shed in front of them.
Not seeing anything ,I started out again and saw a fresh fork laying in the grass...About that time,I heard Matt holler below me that he had found a fresh shed also..
He layed his pack down and walked over to claim his prize..A small 3 point....I went over his way to compare sheds and to see if they possibly matched...No match,so Matt walked back to gather his pack....Another excited holler and there was a monster four point laying right next to his pack, like 2 feet,in the OPEN......He completly missed it when he seen the little 3...Practicly triped on it...
Hmmm?..It was laying in the open right where I had carefully glassed trying to ace them out....Then to make matters worse,Roseybulls came in to see the sheds, looked up the hill about forty yards and saw ANOTHER shed...This one was laying right where I stood glassing below me...LOL
What a circus...The other odd thing is that where we rested and took pics of the sheds on the stump,a hour later we came back that way and Matt found a shed right there ..How we missed it who knows.....
It made for a lot of laughs anyway...

Re: Only in Santiam Land.....
Yep, it was a good day to be in the woods. Got to meet some really good guys who share the same passion for shed hunting as I do. Thanks Santiam and AQS for showing us some new country, hopefully we'll do it again sometime. And thanks OSU for coming up and spending the day with me. After you left, I went up to that oak patch that was calling my name and found a burly 3 point and a spike.

Re: Only in Santiam Land.....
He's not real big, but he's got some mass. Kinda scared me, almost stepped on the damn thing.LOL
Sounds good Bill. I wish there was more time in a day, there's so many sheds out there that NEED to be found.

Re: Only in Santiam Land.....
Here is a picture of that 4 pt. shed I totally blew past! Like Santiam said, that will go down as one of the greatest moments in my shed hunting career!
Rooseybulls: I knew you'd find something in there buddy! How was the spike and good eye for spotting that. That is the one thing that continues to elude my collection. I'd imagine you're back down climbing the hills again today.
Here is a parting shot of Rooseybulls heading up the hill to pick up his prize that he spotted after I picked up my 4 pt.

I chased elk around there last year during bow season. Dont post too many pics, any local will find it.

Re: Only in Santiam Land.....
I told you guys that I couldn't shed hunt today...I had to spend the day with the wife...
Well...
I found a way...She wanted to take the horses out...I got to pick the spot...
Found a fresh fork,2 nice older 4 points and a 3 by 3 skull..
I am a SNEAKY devil...
Saved some wear and tear on the old body too...

Re: Only in Santiam Land.....
LOL
Do your horses do good just busting right through the timber??? I might have to saddle up the wife's two debt collectors and go out one weekend. I'd like to see the other stuff you got; I sent you a PM Santiam.

Re: Only in Santiam Land.....
Looks like he must have made up for Saturday! LOL Good huntin' AQS, my co-workers were throughly impressed with the giant 4 pt. But the question that came from all of them; Where's the other side?!?!? My reply was that two brothers were holding out on me
oh and sooslaw; I've never seen a "working" person with a clean pair of riggin's If they are clean, does that mean I'm not working hard enough????
