DEGENERATIVE POSTS POLICY

I am very happy to see a lot of new, interesting, and informative people become Ifish members. And it is growing. Yesterday this webstie got over 6,000 hits! There has been a lot of positive feedback about the sharing and civility on this BB. However, as Steel69 mentioned within the "Tribal fishing" thread by s.s.k., some of the posts have started to degenerate into the type of unnecessary negative threads pervasive on other N.W. BB's. I'm not going to allow that to happen here. We have too good of a thing going here! The only time I removed an entire thread on the old BB I got a lot of flack for censorship. Time to toughen the skin back up again. My policy as moderator on this board will be to warn posters when I believe, or good members express belief, that a post or thread has gotten too carried away with derogatory or name calling type of messages. Appropriate challenge or defense of an opinion is fine, even if it becomes a little heated. But it is no longer allowed to be blatantly racist, a name caller, user of foul language, or generally abusive of the intent of this BB. After warnings, continued degenerative posts or threads may be removed. And if necessary, uneithical bothersome individuals will be banned from this BB. I was the one who first called "foul" on the censorship issue which put you in the hot seat a few months ago. My thougths have matured (changed) since. I will support your right in the future to censor post which create a negative thread. Nothing worse than listening to a bunch of bickering. Good luck walking the narrow fence on this one.

Hopefully members wont be offended with first amendment limits on the BB, and leave as Wisdom did. We are stronger as a group.

People call this a "public" forum, however, it's not maintained by taxpayer funds (as far as I know ). Therefore, it's really a private forum, and whatever you feel you need to do, RT, have at it. 99% of us are with you!!!

I agree with that this board should remain positive and fun. I was a subscriber to blues-l which was a board to discuss blues music. It was brutal! There were all kinds of threats and fights and bickering. There were even threats of stalking and death threats!!! Very little about the blues was ever discussed. I really enjoy this board and all the information that can be obtained here and if you don't agree with me I'LL GET YOU!!!!

Sounds like everyone is behind you all the way, me included. Name-calling, and abusive language don't add anything to a discussion, but rather detract from any point that was trying to be made. Differing opinions are one thing, but your opinion won't be any more right by taking personal shots at your "opponent". Thanks for running a useful and informative BB, and feel free to keep it as you (and Jen) see fit, regardless of what any members say.

Thanks RT, I'm glad to see something positive happening. I figured I'd get the "5th amendment" speech for asking to nip that post in the bud. I agree with above statement, this is a private owned board (I don't remember paying a dues to use this page) so you have all the right in the world to do as you wish. Just like any type of ownership, you can refuse to serve anyone you want. I just like coming here and being able to have fun and post without grief. Thanks again......

RT: your points are right on the mark and I agree that some type of rules need to be in effect and enforced. Without them... go to the other board and you see the results.

The only concern I have is the comments and jokes you make. Who's going to monitor them as some of those really need to be evaluated as they are sick .... you know the ones...you and emu's ...you and penuts and girls.....you and donuts and broken chairs... you beating up on guys half your age in arm wrestling...etc..etc...

Well Giz, if you read in the fine print in the agreement section you'll find the "moderator" is immune to any decency rules. (jk Jen - don't delete me, please). Hey, we really appreciate all your comments and support! Jen and I consider Ifish members to be an extended family, so you regulars are welcome to let someone know when they are out of line, as Steel69 did, if done in a diplomatic way. That includes getting after me! I am one of the worst when it comes to not being able to resist a humor setup, including benign adult humor. And sometimes it's hard not to let some #@%(_* get what they've got coming. But in the long run civilty will prevail, thus so will this site. Thanks so much people. - RT
