Default Non-clipped coho

Only 3 non-clipped coho caught and released out the 56 hatcheries we landed in the 3 days of fishing in the ocean out of Ilwaco last Sun. thru Tues.! Must be a minimal threat to the mortality rate it seems. Maybe they ought to lift the restriction on barbed hooks out there. We must have lost twice as many because of the barbless hooks!
And by the way I noticed a non-clipped coho on ice at the seafood store in Chinook Wash. when I stopped in there to pick up some tuna on Tuesday, I guess it is legal to sell incidentally gillnetted natives??

What is a native fish anymore? Is it the result of a pair of stray hatchery salmon? Is it a fish that escaped the clipper at the hatchery on release? We didn't hit but one finned salmon off Newport at the Stonewall bank last month. Only one in the saltchuck off the Columbia this month. Where the hell are all of these natives we're asked to protect anyway? Why are we fishing for salmon that are listed on the ESA? Things to ponder. Can't ask anymore questions, makes my head hurt. Maybe I should go fishing before they (faceless buearacrats) give it all to the gillnetters.............. or the Tribal fishers. Lets stop the wishful thinking shall we? The bend is your friend!

Hmmmmmmm 56 fish to or in the boat in 3 days, playing at least twice that many (so what if ya lost em' at least ya got to play em'), 3 wilds in the bunch and damn them barbless hooks. I'm thinkin' gee I wish I had that kind of problem and wonderin' why your mad and *******'. I guess the days on the water and the comradery between friends doesn't count for much any more!!!

Weeeel, guess what....I think that the native coho have shown up! We fished the ocean, out of the Columbia today, on a charter and 50% of our catch was native, and were released in good shape, thanks to the barbless hook thing. I know though, that I lost a big chinook today cause of no barbs. But we limited on cohos in 1 1/2 hours and I have no complaints. What a gas we had today!!!!!! We must of caught 25 fish between the three of us!

Ive been fishing the ocean since it opened in July and on The lasst 5 trips we probably had 25-50% "nates" last week we were culling our fish (not in the bass master sense) we were throwing back lots of smaller fish so the barbless made life alot easier besides they are easier to get out of your net ...
