Default Questions?

R.T., have heard good things about your board, glad I found it.

Been sled fishing for about 4 years now, (Snoqualmie, Sky and Snohomish) driftboat before that, and have never caught a King.

I heard about the fishery at the Vernita Bridge, and was wondering if any could or would give me any info. about that area?

Campsites in the area (have a camper), tips or techniques that might work, how heavy of gear recommended(rod and reel size)? Is it a hazardous stretch of river?

Sorry about all the questions, any input would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Doubletake

Doubletake may be new to bouy 10 but this is my backyard the river can be bad but like a wise man said to me (pilar) buy a chart young man and e mail me there are a few bad spots but you said that you are in a sled you should be ok prop nav cuts off before good fishing.Downriggers and herring is best but for those of us with out jet-divers(50) and herring work great Mag warts ok but slower camp at vernita bridge this puts you close to best fishing from bridge to n hole down river of bridge good luck.

Welcome aboard 2takes. Would you guys mind sharing where Vernita Br. is located? And is that a river you are talking about or a piece of saltchuck? Thanks. - RT

RKB, Thanks for the info. I will E-mail you shortly.

R.T. The Vernita Bridge is on the Columbia below Vantage, Wa. I believe it is in the Hanford area.

Just a few tips for you. Fishing is pretty dead until about Sept 15. because of warm water; however, there usually is plenty of fish in the area. At the peak in latter half of September there is a rough camper city at the rough boat ramp at the Vernita bridge. Sometime soon there is supposed to be a new formal launching facility but I dont know the status of its progress. This area gets heavy use at the peak; 150 trailers is not uncommon. Bring everything with you because nearest store is in Desert Aire, a small trailer, recreational home area upstream of the ramp. Nearest formal camping area is farther away. There should be porta potties there but they get heavy use. But by the end of the season, the sage brush at the ramp/camp is well decorated with TP. You won't have any boating problems with the sled. The river is big, wide without whitewater. Be careful about leaving your boat on shore for any length of time. The PUD plays with the flows a lot and I've seen a few boats drydocked while fishers were taking a snooze in camp. Anglers use a bit of everything for gear in a trolling, backbouncing approach. You dont really have to travel very far from the bridge; most of the effort is above the bridge but below the bridge produces also. Good Luck.
