Portland man arrested in MySpace.com sting
Portland man arrested in MySpace.com sting
By Debora Knapp
and KATU.com Web Staff
PORTLAND, Ore. - Police say a 12-year-old girl with a profile on the popular Web site MySpace.com has been instrumental in apprehending a man who solicited her for sexual reasons.
Police say Jeramie Eidem, 26, was well aware that the girl was only 12 years old when he arranged to meet her in Vancouver.
But Eidem only met sheriffs deputies at the arranged time and place, and is now under arrest on attempted **** charges.
Officers also seized his home computer for evidence.
Investigators say the girl informed her parents that she had been solicited online through her MySpace page, and her parents in turn contacted Washington authorities.
The girl and her parents worked with deputies to arrange the meeting and make the arrest.
Jeff Green, a detective with Clackamas County's Child Abuse Team, says MySpace.com and other online sites where teens gather are also popular with pedophiles and child predators.
The girl who assisted police is actually younger than MySpace.com regulations allow to have a page on the site. The minimum age is listed as 14 and users need to have parental permission to sign up.
Police say that despite the girl being younger than regulations stipulate, she did the right thing by informing her parents she had been contacted by Eidem.

Re: Portland man arrested in MySpace.com sting
Yes, crack down and all that, but someone like that girls parnets should do something too. A 12 year old girl surfing
"my space" is not a good idea. My kids 10 and 13, have guide lines on where, and what they can look at, and surf, and I go in and look at where they go...in in case they might slip up. As for the "sicko" it is really sad to see what lurks out there in or world. How messed up.....

This is what it takes, RODACTION!
These type of web sights that draw kids are are natural trolling areas for pedophiles and other sexual predators. Since they're legal it's all about knowing what your kids are up to, and open lines of communication within the family.

Re: Portland man arrested in MySpace.com sting
"sick-o" YES...parents involvement- needed
12 year old being smart--Good Job
putting slime ball in jail--Outstanding
This is something I do for a living and it would outrage most of you if the media actually had the time to do hours on end of slime balls doing this act...it happens more than most know...
job security -yes,,,unfortunate
I was born in the wrong century...get a rope
